In the early morning hours March 6, Santana’s army advanced on the Alamo. American were unable to fend off a third attack. Between All died, while most historians of the Alamo agree that around 600 good Mexicans were lost.

There were indeed Mexicans inside the Alamo fighting in behalf of the Republic. They were referred to as Texians in those days.
A pun almost never used is that, as many people who know of Santa Ana, few ever make the connection between him and his illustrious grandson, Benhamin, over whom he doted.
Because who here has never heard of Ben Ana?
I'm not even from Texas, but I know that any American's that were fighting, had left America for a better life in the new Republic of Texas. And they called themselves Texans, then and now.
The only statue of a defender at the Alamo is of Toribio Loyosa. It is located just outside the West wall of the fort between the Alamo plaza and the River Walk.

The article would leave one to believe there were 600 that died DEFENDING the Alamo. That was the point I was making.

I had a relative of mine die in the Alamo as well. Starr. Every visit to the Alamo is a sobering trip. Such bravery.
Our Masonic Lodge hangs a wreath on it every year in remembrance.
Not far from La Bahia and the Fannin monument is the statue of The Angle of Goliad who helped many too escape the massacre.
I believe every human should, in their lifetime, find just one ideal worth dying for. The Alamo is a testament to the truth of that statement, even if partially legend. It has strengthened and inspired many. May you have a most blessed Christmas.
Periodically I fly the Alamo flag up my pole to commemorate the battle. Its very prominent cause I live on one of the highest mountains in my area. One day someone left a note in my mailbox threatening to tear my “Mexican” flag down. They never did but it shows how many people don’t “ Remember the Alamo!”.

Fellow citizens & compatriots—I am besieged, by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna—I have sustained a continual Bombardment & cannonade for 24 hours & have not lost a man. The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise, the garrison are to be put to the sword, if the fort is taken—I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, & our flag still waves proudly from the walls. I shall never surrender or retreat.
Then, I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism & everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid, with all dispatch—The enemy is receiving reinforcements daily & will no doubt increase to three or four thousand in four or five days. Yes, don’t forget Goliad. My ancestral cousin James Walker Fannin surrendered his troops to overwhelming Mexican forces, assuming they would be treated as POWs. They were not. The Texican prisoners were marched back to the fort, shot down and bayonetted to death, almost to the man. The bodies were partially burned, and left on the ground unburied by Santa Anna’s men.
