New York Times ^ | January 14, 2019 | Chris Buckley

China’s diplomatic clash with Canada escalated sharply on Monday, when a Canadian man was sentenced to death for drug smuggling after a Chinese court overrode his plea of innocence at a retrial that had been swiftly called after tensions erupted between the two countries.

What happens now? Does Justin write a sternly worded letter to Chinese authorities?

Last month, a court ordered Mr. Schellenberg to be retried after he appealed a 15-year prison sentence for smuggling methamphetamines.

China has an interesting appeals system.

That's one way to get a shorter sentence.

Fire a Canadian ICBM at them.

I wouldn’t advise a foreigner to smuggle drugs into China/Singapore. The consequences are severe.

You get a bullet to fhe back of your head or you get hanged. Justice is swift.

Appeals don’t run for decades.

China has a right to implement their own justice system.

Visitors have the responsibility to abide by Chinese law.

Canada should give up the fantasy that it has independent power or influence. Its turning into a Northern Cesspool.

Its just common sense not to break the law. And the Constitution doesn’t apply to foreign countries.

Smuggling drugs in much of Asia is a capital offense.

Not a lot he can do. The PRC is acting as a sovereign nation and certainly isn't required to seek the permission of any other nation to execute some one convicted of a crime in their country. The Canadians can withdraw their ambassador for a period and file a claim with the UN Human Rights Commission and that is about it. They could embargo imports and exports but that would really hurt, Canada more than China.

If the PRC wished to they could engage in some classic Chinese theater and carry the execution through to having the malefactor face a firing squad firing blanks and then whisk him out of the country and stick him on the first plane to anywhere else and let the Canadians deal with getting their citizen back.

I would do that and have a long good laugh at snow flake's expense.

Cool, so we get to execute all Chinese origin persons here and China gets to execute all US origin persons there helping give China their unfair advantage.

Where’s the concern?

China is our enemy and we are in another Cold War with them. We should stop trading and dealing with them.

Or they can just shoot him and still have a long good laugh at the snowflake’s expense with the added benefit of actually deterring other drug mules.

Mr. Schellenberg is going on a very short drive to the local sand pit.

His family will receive a bill for the bullet.

That's not really drug smuggling. That is adding vibrancy to the mosaic of our society.

“China is our enemy and we are in another Cold War with them. We should stop trading and dealing with them.”

If the device you used to write that post was made in China, or any of its components were made in China, we are probably not in a cold war with China.

However, you should stand by your assertion and gather all items you own that were made in China and destroy them.

Please post pics using your Canadian made electronic device.

Is this really about China setting up a prisoner exchange with Canada for Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou?

That has nothing to do with it. Everything made in China was made in the USA and can be made in USA.

I have a warning to all Free Traitors™ like you. Things are changing. If we get into hot war with China and our boys come home in body bags then you will need to flee the country because I am sure you will be hunted down like the vermin you really are. I will spit on your grave then I will dance a jig of freedom.
