Ocasio-Cortez takes a victory lap after Amazon scraps plans to build in New York

Notch another victory for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The freshman Democratic representative celebrated online retailer Amazon’s decision Thursday to scrap its plans to build a new headquarters in her New York City district.

“I think it’s incredible,” Ocasio-Cortez responded when asked to comment on Amazon’s about-face. “It shows that everyday Americans still have the power to organize and fight for their communities and they can have more say in this country than richest man in the world.”

Earlier Thursday, the company announced it was reversing the plan, announced in November, to build new East Coast headquarters buildings in New York City and in Arlington, Virginia. The Virginia part of the plan will go ahead. The company said it would not look for a new location to replace the cancelled $2.5 billion project.

"After much thought and deliberation, we’ve decided not to move forward with our plans to build a headquarters for Amazon in Long Island City, Queens,” Amazon spokeswoman Jodi Seth said in a statement.

Ocasio-Cortez was one of the leaders of the fight against the proposed deal, largely over the $3 billion in tax breaks the city and state promised the company.

New York’s chronic shortage of housing and the overburdened mass transit system were also cited by opponents.

The deal would have meant an estimated 25,000 new jobs for the city.

The only thing AOC is good for is a victory lap DANCE.

In a few years, she won’t even be good for that. The good thing about her is that she makes Trump look like Washington, Jackson, and Lincoln.

“But I think they’ll see it soon in polls.”

Really? Look at their voter base:

1) Minorities won’t object. As long as the social welfare funds are flowing they will be enthusiastic Democrat supporters
2) As long as they continue to back abortion on demand, liberal white females will be ok.
3) Environmentalists are happy.
4) The majority of millennials of all races who have 18 years of indoctrination in the public schools and 4-6 years of indoctrination at institutions of higher learning won’t care. They are programmed to salute the progressive agenda. The loss of an Amazon headquarters to New York won’t phase them a bit.
5) Wealthy millionaire and billionaire socialists won’t turn against the Democrats.
6) Even traditional New York limousine liberals will grip a little while continuing to support the party.
7) Jewish voters? Trump supporting Israel and moving the US embassy to Jerusalem didn’t move one vote. The anti semitism of the Democrat Muslim politicians isn’t causing them to stray.

Ocasio-Cortez is not alienating anyone on the current Democrat plantation. Democrats intentionally walked away from blue collar whites during the Obama years. If Cortez was a problem in the Democrat internal polls, Pelosi and her donors would have already put a leash on her. She is “winning” from their perspective. After all, which party picked up the House in 2018?

Demographics is destiny. As long as millions of impoverished people from third world socialist countries are crossing southern border becoming dependent on Democrat sponsored social welfare programs, one party socialist rule is inevitable.

Your argument would make some minor sense if the municipalities were actually SPENDING money to attract them.

They are not. They are forgoing revenues for a set period of time.

Your thinking spawned the concept of tax cuts being expenditures, that by taking less from somebody you are actually spending on them at the expense of everyone else.

It’s a laughable fallacy, at best.

I live in Buffalo and you’re full of Wardynski’s!

We have beautiful spring, summer, and fall here. Swimming and boating in the summer, skiing in the winter, fall and spring activities...

In other places it’s just hot and not so hot.

October to April. Seven months of winter. I have seen snow in May. You have fallen prey to the great Buffalo delusion that winter is NOT seven months long. I am part of it too. But if you can make it through, you achieve a singular form of Nirvana.

this deserves the...

I cannot believe how incredibly stupid you are. I mean rock-hard stupid. Dehydrated-rock-hard stupid. Stupid, so stupid it goes way beyond the stupid we know into a whole different dimension of stupid. You are trans-stupid stupid. Meta-stupid. Stupid collapsed on itself so far that even the neutrons have collapsed. Stupid gotten so dense that no intellect can escape. Singularity stupid. Blazing hot mid-day sun on Mercury stupid.
You emit more stupid in one second than our entire galaxy emits in a year. Quasar stupid.

Nothing in our universe can really be this stupid. Perhaps this is some primordial fragment from the original big bang of stupid. Some pure essence of a stupid so uncontaminated by anything else as to be beyond the laws of physics that we know. I’m sorry. I can’t go on. This is an epiphany of stupid for me.

“So all the FReepers who hate Elon Musk for getting tax breaks should be on her side.”

Tax breaks for a Capital Investment are completely different than tax breaks to sustain operations.

I’m surprised you’re trying to compare the two.

It’s the difference between capital gains taxes and income taxes.

Two different universes.

Most of Tesla’s subsidies are from from state and local governments for putting its business there.

25,000 potential jobs in the area gone and she celebrates??

Amazing isn't it. She wants everybody to have a good job but hates the companies that provide them. You can't have it both ways.

She is CERTIFIED retarded.

Another difference is that the electric vehicle tax credit is for every maker of electric cars, it’s not something that exclusively benefits Tesla.

Tesla just makes greater use of it since they make nothing but electric vehicles. And the end of that credit triggers once a company has built 200,000 vehicles, which is now the case for Tesla. It should expire for them come January 2020.
