The bill, introduced by Sens. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Tim Scott (R-S.C.), makes lynching punishable as a hate crime.
The bill previously passed the Senate in December, but it did not clear the then-GOP controlled House before the end of the 115th Congress. It passed on Thursday by a voice vote.

I don’t think anyone has read the bill, but I bet it includes making it illegal to play Hangman, or for anyone (especially weather reporters on TV stations) to even draw a noose.

You know, if you read that little snippet of an amendment, it doesn't really mention what constitutes a lynching, and one astute freeper said the definition of lynching, like most things governmental, will stretch, contract and expand as the situation requires re the elite injustice du jour.

Read the link to the protected groups as included in the bill. Political positions are not protected. It does add “gender identity” to the long list of protected classes. The Senate should not have passed this. Did Republican Senators bother checking what it covered? It’s a Trojan Horse. Dems win again.

For all those have been lynched in the past, and all those who will be lynched in future I’m sure this will be a huge relief. Knowing that those have been charged with murdering you by lynching will also be called out for their hatred towards you... Apparently, the very act of lynching a human in itself, isn’t enough to let everybody out there know that the lyncher actually hated you.... And didn’t just causally lynch you for some other odd reason.
Isn’t this nothing more than virtue signaling?
There are laws on the books all ready.
I just don’t get different classes of victims, and everyone being equally protected under the law.
