Supreme Court says Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg back at work
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | February 15, 2019

The Supreme Court says Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has returned to work at the building for the first time since lung cancer surgery in late December.

The court’s press office says the 85-year-old Ginsburg is attending the justices’ Friday closed-door conference at which they’re weighing whether to add new cases and finalizing opinions in cases argued in the fall.

Ginsburg missed six days of arguments and three private conferences as she recuperated from the December surgery. The court has said she participated in the court’s work despite her absence.

That’s actually not a sweetheart salary, given that private sector attorneys bill out around $600.00/hour and bill around 1,500 hours a year.

Of course, the SCOTUS salary does not count the perks that go with the gig...

Yes, occasionally we Peons become impudent and squeak out our outrage.

I find that hard to believe.

I could believe it.

The Supreme Court is one of the most exclusive clubs in the country. Of course they will close ranks and cover for their members even when they are incapacitated or incompetent. They have done it before.

I suppose that when RBG finally does shuffle off this mortal coil, we won't get the definitive announcement for at least a week. Perhaps she will be the first Supreme Court Justice to issue a post-mortem opinion.

How can she rule on cases without oral arguments being heard?

Simple. Justices vote purely on personal bias and prejudice. Arguments are window dressing and time wasters. RBG fell over asleep in her chair during some of them. More comfortable at home.
Usual procedure: Any decision that could help Trump means NO from each liberal.

Roberts will be reminded by a cell phone call that “we will bring everything about you to the media, remember? Vote like we tell you.”

Sen. Allen Ellender (D-LA) and Sen. Edward Burke (D-NE) proposed SC age limit during FDR’s terms.

There was another prolonged such attempt 1946-1955 led by Edwin Falk of the NYC Bar Association. The Supreme Court’s politically charged decisions in the ‘50s killed any chance for the necessary bipartisan agreement.

Stop the presses, someone showed up for one day at a $255,300/annum job...a year for SCOTUS being maybe 6 months.
////////////////////////////////////////////
1) Nice work if you can get it , as the song says.

2) Remember the term “payroll” once meant a guy sitting at the exit of the factory or company building with a huge rubber banded roll of cash. He peeled off from the “payroll” for each worker’s wages as he went home.

Until RBG sets up direct deposit she may come in for her money. Then leave for a few weeks.
Drug dealers, pornographers, bookies and child traffickers still pay in cash. Maybe the SCOTUS is in that class now.
Have you seen their decisions?

A lifetime appointment should be truncated to a maximum age.

That wold require a Constitutional Amendment, highly unlikely IMHO. FDR tried an end-around by trying to pass a bill through Congress that would allow him to appoint Justices to “help” aging Justices with their workload (of course it was to counter the anti-New Deal votes in SCOTUS). Even Dems thought this a bridge too far and rejected it. Today’s Dems won’t hesitate if they gain control of the Presidency and the Senate.

“She was there” means only as much as it says: “Present in a body” (The mind and body bit is negotiable.)

“Ginsburg has been absent from the court since undergoing surgery in late December to remove two cancerous nodules from her lower left lung.”

I ain’t buying it. From the above excerpt they’re still lying about her cancer surgery. She had a lobe of her lungs removed. There are five lobes btw, and they’re saying it’s only two nodules. Closed door sessions don’t allow us to see her condition. I’ve very dubious about the whole thing. I’d be surprised if she was at oral arguments. If she is there it could stress her enough that it might kill her and I think they know that.

Ya gotta wonder.

They’ve had several months to perfect a body double.

It’s not something I’d expect them to eschew if they needed ‘her’ around.

Perhaps she will be the first Supreme Court Justice to issue a post-mortem opinion.

All of her clerks, those who are really writing her opinions, wear little wristbands that have this on them:

WWRW
(What Would Ruth Write)
