Dr. Rand Paul Releases Statement on National Emergency Vote
Sen. Rand Paul ^ | Sen. Rand Paul

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 14, 2019 Contact: Press@paul.senate.gov, 202-224-4343

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) released the following statement after voting to disapprove of the national emergency declaration regarding the border:

“I stand with President Trump on the need for a border wall and stronger border security, but the Constitution clearly states that money cannot be spent unless Congress has passed a law to do so.”

On March 4, 2019, Dr. Paul introduced the Border Enforcement, Security, And Funding Enhancement (BE SAFE) Act as a constitutional, fiscally responsible alternative. The BE SAFE Act would impose a $2,500 border security fee on each new green card issued to fund the construction of new border walls or physical barriers and other immigration-related improvements. The bill also directs U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) to deposit all fees paid under the BE SAFE Act into a new Border Security Enhancement Fund at the U.S. Treasury. Only the president would be authorized to use the Fund for certain immigration-related purposes.

You can read the BE SAFE Act below:

They don’t want it built. They only voted for a border wall when they knew it wouldn’t be built. Same as the repeal of Obummercare. Too much posturing and virtue signalling, he and the other (r)epublicans need to be primaried out.

He’s right. Congress has to authorize spending money, which they did when they authorized the President to declare a national emergency. He could be sending the Army, Marines and any none else he wants too to stop border violations by any means necessary including a wall. So far he’s been quite reasonable.

Personally, I doubt Paul would have done this if he had been the deciding vote. But that’s just me.

Paul should vote the same way, wether he's the deciding vote, or not.

And a chance to grandstand, knowing Trump will veto and own this while the Senators get to bloviate and posture.

The Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. His sire is a lying, deceitful snake, too. He wait for a bill he KNEW would PAA, attach tons of pork to it for his district, and then vote against, knowing it would pass anyway. Then he’d loudly proclaim he’d voted against it. Typical politician.

Never liked him or his dad. He continues to vote against the President. He’s anti military and pro open borders.
He needs to be primaried.

Congress DID pass a law: https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/50/chapter-34

“If this was a Democrat president and he was trying to prevent sonething you would all be celebrating it”

What an idiotic post.

If Obama had done this to stop border crossings, why on Earth would we oppose it?

Runt Paul is a liberal puke. He tries to hide behind tag ‘liberaltarian’, but he’s just a liberal.

To be fair, Rand Paul is a libertarian, not a Libertarian. So while the LP platform might oppose a border wall, that doesn’t automatically mean that Rand Paul, a member of the Republican Party, does as well.

There is no more bipartisan policy inside the beltway than open borders. They ALL love it.
