'Climate despair' is making people give up on life 'It's super painful to be a human being right now at this point in history'

In the summer of 2015—the warmest year on record at the time—it was the literal heat that got to Meg Ruttan Walker, a 37-year-old former teacher in Kitchener, Ontario. “Summers have been stressful to me since having my son,” said Ruttan Walker, who is now an environmental activist. “It’s hard to enjoy a season that’s a constant reminder that the world is getting warmer.”

“I think my anxiety just reached a peak,” Ruttan Walker continued. It felt like there was nowhere to go, and although she had spoken to her primary care doctor about anxiety, she hadn’t sought help with her mental health. Suddenly, she was contemplating self-harm. “Though I don’t think I would have hurt myself, I didn’t know how to live with the fear of… the apocalypse, I guess? My son was home with me and I had to call my friend over to watch him because I couldn’t even look at him without breaking down,” Ruttan Walker said. She eventually checked herself into an overnight mental health facility.

Her case is extreme, but many people are suffering from what could be called “climate despair,” a sense that climate change is an unstoppable force that will render humanity extinct and renders life in the meantime futile.

Uh, I have a suggestion........................... Then again, should those that are "responsible" for causing this sort of mental derangement be held accountable? Surely some ambulance chaser can cobble up a massive law suit against those spreading the 'climalarkey'.

It can be hard to be a human when you believe a scary lie.

Can I suggest to her, just wait a few months? The Ontario winter which will arrive in a few short months will wipe away her mental anguish of the summer heat.

I love being a human, but maybe that’s because I’m not a fool.

It’s not easy being Green, or a Conservative.

Being relentlessly and incessantly bombarded with “ BS is bad for your mental health? Who’d a thunk that?

I suspect there's more going on here than warm days.

First part of my post kinda, sorta, may have, coulda, possibly indicated that. But, please no firearms because we know where that will lead. “GLOBAL WARMING LEADS TO INCREASE OF FIREARM RELATED DEATHS!” Closed garage running car would seem more appropriate. You know to show the evil of “fossil” fuels.

I have talked to young millennials who really believe there is no point in life anymore, because it will all end in 12 years. They really believe the nonsense

Take away their Toilet Paper, Internet Access and their iPhone and they will stop worrying about anything except Toilet Paper, Internet Access and their iPhone.

“... a sense that climate change is an unstoppable force”

Well, climate change is an unstoppable force. That’s the point. There is nothing we can do about it except adapt, which humans have been able to do. We made it through ice ages and warm spells (farms in Greenland). Oceans rise, we move inland. Ice advances, we head south. We’re fairly clever at that sort of thing.

Look at all of the books, cartoons, TV shows, and movies that all had dystopian and nihilist themes.

Hunger Games.
Black Mirror.
Walking Dead.
Rick and Morty.
Elysium.
District 9.
Ready Player One.
Battle Star Galactica reboot.

And so on...

Add to that the soul-sucking nature of social media, call-out & cancel culture, where your own thoughts can turn you into an international pariah

Young people have been fed nothing but a diet of media that just tells them that the world is hopeless and nothing in the future is worth living for. This global warming crap is just the biggest to scare the hell out of them into just giving up and submitting to the state or to the end of a rope.

Climate? What about death? Substituting our own personal death with climate attempts to dislocate what we all face individually. Despair ought to set in upon every one of us if we haven’t been reconciled to our Creator. But I guess climate despair allows some to externalize all the blame and then lets us despair about it. It even allows some a form of righteousness in their eyes by being a “activist”. Crazy stuff.
