An elderly couple in Washington state was found dead in their home in an apparent murder-suicide, authorities said, and police say they discovered notes about the couples struggle to afford necessary medical care.
A 77-year-old man living near Ferndale, Washington, called 911 Wednesday morning and told the dispatcher he was contemplating suicide, according to a Facebook post from the Whatcom County Sheriffs Office. The sheriff's office wrote that the dispatcher tried to keep the man on the line, but he hung up saying, We will be in the front bedroom.
Deputies arrived at the scene minutes later, according to the Facebook post, and a crisis negotiator attempted to contact the occupants of the home for an hour. Deputies then deployed a robot mounted camera into the home and saw the man and his wife were dead. Both appear to have died from a gunshot wound.
The sheriffs office is now investigating the case as a murder-suicide. Several notes were reportedly left in the home citing severe ongoing medical problems with the wife and expressing concerns that the couple did not have sufficient resources to pay for medical care," according to the sheriff's statement.
It is very tragic that one of our senior citizens would find himself in such desperate circumstances where he felt murder and suicide were the only option. Help is always available with a call to 9-1-1, Bill Elfo, Whatcom County Sheriff, said in the post.
The identities of the man and woman will not be released until after the next of kin are notified.
Two dogs were also found in the house, and have been taken to a local Humane Society. Numerous firearms were also found. (?)>
The legacy of McCain’s thumbs-down.
Who will they be voting for in the 2020 Democrat primary
No longer needs to. Once one turns 65 or older they are automatically put on Medicare, which covers 80%.
The democrats broke our system, the only answer is dereg. Remove all government mandates, let insurance sell whatever, let price competition begin and get the government hands out of all of the people’s pockets.
You get 3 government mandates
1. Price Transparency - all prices must be publicly posted/available
2. Freedom of Choice of any plan you want or no plan
3. No price collusion or fixing by state or private means
What this would do would put hospitals, drug companies, medical device providers, and insurance companies in direct competition. Immediately web companies would pop up doing comparisons and showing who is cheapest for highest quality. It would be a battle for them all to lean out the overhead and paperwork, and provide actual health care.
Legal Assisted Suicide is the law in the state of Washington. As one could predict, there has been an uptick in elderly suicides in this state.
That's insane.
We use Christian Healthcare Ministries. We have their best “plan” + “brothers keeper” which gives us basically unlimited “catastrophic” coverage. It costs $300 a month for both my wife and I plus about $30 a month for the brothers keeper.
It is a healthcare cost sharing organization that has very low administrative fees and has been around for decades. They have “shared” literally billions of dollars in healthcare expenses.
My wife and I buy NY “marketplace” coverage from the state-sponsored cartel. For two of us, 48 years old, the price is $900/month with $6000 deductible.
I would like to self-insure, but nearly every doctor I’ve spoken with does not have a clue about accepting cash or negotiating rates
Obviously, they should’ve been red flagged because they were old.
I’m “retiring”this year and plan to continue working fulltime for the foreseeable future.
Hope it goes well for you tonight!
Medicare A is automatic at age 65. If you’ve paid Medicare taxes you should get that at no cost. Medicare B is about $110 per month, usually deducted from you Social Security. Supplemental plans will cover much or all of what Medicare B doesn’t. Plan F has no deductible but it is being phased out. Plan G is the same as F but with a deductible. Price will depend on where you live. Then there are the Advantage plansnot available everywhere but are like an HMOmost cost nothing extra but you’re locked into a network.
My plan F costs about $200/mo and so far has paid for everythingsurgery, radiation treatments, tests, etc. Good luck.
This article of course is nonsense. First, it doesn’t indicate if either of them was even sick. If creditors want to take the assets of elderly people in genuine need they have to drag their butts into court to get them.
We had “elderly” neighbors about 5 years older than us. They had an expensive custom home built on our “airpark” for them and their airplane. The wife got sick with cancer, so they stopped making their payments. They lived in their house for almost ten years before the bank finally got the it. The last I heard they are both still alive and well.
In our state no one in need is denied healthcare regardless of their ability to pay.
and yet, non-American citizens can walk into any emergency room in the country and by law receive free treatment, collect welfare, and subsidized housing but Veterans are left homeless, unemployed and and untreated in the streets not to mention everyday American Citizens.
My Aunt and Uncle suffered this fate when their money ran out treating her Alzheimer’s disease. My Aunt and Uncle were forced by the state and Federal Las to liquidate all their assets and go into Bankruptcy in-order for her medicare or medicaid, can’t remember which, treatment to continue which left my Uncle Destitute after she died.
The terrible thing is they were using Medicare.
We live in Washington the same state that this murder/suicide happened.
Butt, butt, butt..........
No doubt Trump’s fault.
...I dont believe in Medicare or SS...
Then refuse both when you qualify...Simple...
Unacceptable response. I don’t believe in them either, but the government has forcibly taken well over a hundred thousand of my dollars to go into those programs over the years and I expect to get as much of that money back as I can.
So...If you don’t believe in them, yet take them, you are a hypocrite...
It matters not to me whether you accept the response or not...LOL
