My Dad was the disposal officer at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and was suppose to take a ride on the Thresher that day but a surprise inspection kept him home...

Wow... Bet he never complained about inspections again? We had an older friend who was assigned to the Thresher for awhile right after it was put into service.

My Dad was stationed on the Thresher but decided submarine life was not for him. He went to make the Navy a career, but never forgot the crew of the Thresher. He kept several momentos which I inherited from him. I was born afterwards.
