Texas Republicans bracing for a Blue Wave in 2020. Yes, Texas
The New Republic ^

When Beto O’Rourke proclaimed, during the second round of Democratic presidential debates, that “there’s a new battleground state, Texas, and it has 38 Electoral College votes,” eyes rolled in unison across America. We’ve all heard that nonsense before! Pundits and progressives have been predicting that minority-white Texas would go blue for so long, it’s practically become a running joke. And while O’Rourke came tantalizingly close to knocking off Ted Cruz last fall, that race seemed to have all the hallmarks of a fluke—a Republican senator who even Republicans can’t stomach, running in a strong Democratic midterm cycle against a fresh-faced liberal who eschewed all forms of conventional political wisdom and ran a campaign so novel, so tireless, and so perfectly made for social media that it became a viral sensation. Post-Betomania, most people assumed that Texas Democrats would resume their role as American politics’ saddest underachievers, while Texas Republicans extended their quarter-century run of dominance as their national party’s ideological, financial, and electoral-vote stronghold.

No, it wouldn’t. TX is full of liberals in its fiver or six large3st cities, who will soon produce a voter majority as they have boasted. “It’s demographics.”

Already tried a little purge that toppled the TX Secretary of State.

The Republican leadership fails us because the primary voters do also.

Texas’ biggest problem was importing Californians who fled the taxes in their state.

DJT won TX by 9pts in 2016.

McCain won TX by almost 12pts in 2008.

“The socialism-loving Hispanic voting majority that is going to flip it has been in place for years.”

We have one saving grace in all this.

(Note on background: Anglo, but grew up in a heavily Hispanic area of San Antonio, long term friendships about 50/50 Anglo and Hispanic, speak Spanish well enough to get by.)

The thing that will prevent this from happening can be reduced to one word - guns.

All my Hispanic buddies are just as serious about their guns as are any of my Anglo buddies. If those idiot democraps will keep pushing the heck out gun control, Texas will stay safe. Hopefully the democraps will never be smart enough to come up with someone that supports all the rest of their crappy agenda, but is AGAINST gun control.

That would cause one hell of a mess in several key states.

Republicans better sharpen their oppo-research.

This was out there last time he ran but never surfaced in the campaign.

Drunk driving mug shot....................punk rocker in a print dress.

And this

BETO SLAPPED DOWN BY THE LEFT----Left-wing activists and liberal journalists
mocked “Beto” after he told Vanity Fair that he was “born” to run for president.
The left says he "reeks of white male privilege." (Excerpt) Read more at breitbart.com ...

================================

Imbeciles like Beto, desperate for traction, makes it up as he falls farther in the polls....
The moron actually said police shoot blacks “solely based on the color of their skin”...with not a scintilla of evidence.
This we know: Beto is about two burritos short of a Taco Bell special....and we have proof.

Beto didn’t win... Enough said?

No, but he did win the last large population county that was Red, Tarrant County (Fort Worth).

All major cities are Blue, and have been for over a decade. With most border counties also Blue, it's going to be close.

Yup.

Texas turning blue seems a matter of when, not if.

Millions pouring over the border. Most of them stay in Texas and eventually get registered to vote.

Millions of employees being moved to Texas from California (thanks, Rick Perry). Many other blue state residents moving there and bringing their voting habits with them.

May not happen in 2020, but soon.

I can't fathom what the dems can offer that would attract votes. Freebies ?...only for non-voting illegals. It seems there's too much common sense, and a strong desire for individual liberty in Texas to be overrun by liberal newcomers...at least for the foreseeable future.

I ask again...what can they offer ? Uni-bathrooms and gender-sensitive pronouns. How about an end to the heart of most Texas's economy ? Oil ? Good luck.

Not only is Dallas blue but so is Dallas County. Harris County is headed that way too.

Texas R’s do have a complacency problem... and sooner or later D’s will surprise, because of generally low turnout in their elections... but I really don’t think 2020 is going to be it.

Beto, and much of the left think that because he wasn’t trounced in 2018 that the state is now blue... its not, not yet anyway.

Agree - I remember Trump having to come here. Just shows how lucky we were that Trump stepped into that Republican hornet’s nest in 2016.

Anyway, if Cruz is smart he’ll retire in 2024 and take a nice paying lobbyist job, or maybe (if God is with us), a Pence Administration job.

Political life won’t get any easier for him or any other Republican in Texas as the years move forward...and Cruz clearly is not up to the task.

Harris County is headed that way too.

Harris County has been for over a decade. They voted for both Hillary and Obama.

The idea that a low American birth rate requires mass immigration is one of the more ridiculous claims floating around. There is no logical connection between the two.

The birth rate during the 1930s through the mid ‘40s was very low and so was immigration. So there’s a real world test of your theory and it failed. It’s just one more lame excuse for mass immigration.
