ICYMI: Hispanic El Paso Residents Urgently Seek Firearms Training To Carry Concealed

Following the deadly shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas that killed 22 people a few weeks ago, Hispanics in the city have flocked to the gun range to take concealed carry classes, Reuters reported. The course is required for Texas residents to obtain a License to Carry (LTC) a concealed firearm.

According to Michael McIntyre, general manager of Gun Central, one of the biggest gun stores in El Paso, his classes have see a huge increase since the shooting earlier this month. Normally each of his concealed carry classes have seven people. Now they average 50 people per class. And the people who are seeking his services are predominantly Hispanic.

“I have over 50 for this Saturday class and approximately the same amount for the Sunday class, and I normally have approximately seven,” McIntyre told Reuters.

In addition to an increase in a desire for training, McIntyre said his handgun sales doubled following the attack.

“We actually had two people buy guns here who were actually in the Walmart on the day of the shooting. The other people are just saying, ‘Hey, you know I want to be able to protect myself in the event of something going on.’,” he said. “This is not the last mass shooting we’re going to see.”

At this very moment, I’m sitting in a CCW class. The room is packed. Over 50 people here.
Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
What a beautiful thing!

It just takes a reading of the simply worded Second Amendment coupled with the knowledge of the then current history that lead to the writing of it.

If you take a class all your information goes into the Government computer files.

If you take the class - not so much. If you apply for the CCW permit - you are absolutely on file for ever after.

Those files will be checked carefully for suitable prospects once the new Red Flag laws go into effect.

In Az you can caru concealed without a permit. But they do have CCW permits available if you want to get one. The advantage of getting an Az CCW permit would be if you travel a lot through states who honor Reciprocity. But in turn, I don’t know if they still are or not, but Az CCW permits used to have a direct link to your driver’s license and the national motor vehicle database.

This was a huge problem when having your plate ran in another state with strict gun laws like Ca. You can just figure on being pulled over and searched a lot going through those states because your plate. driver’s license, and your CCW will all pop up together on their computer. And they ARE going to pull you over and see if you are packing.

"I don't want any yahoo who has never had a gun safety course carrying a firearm around anywhere."

I wonder what gun safety courses were taken by the Parkland shooter? Or the Newtown shooter? Or any of the yahoos that killed dozens of unarmed people?

I don't think our Founders, when they wrote and ratified the Second Amendment, thought that using firearms was so complicated that there should be a training exception to that amendment.

If the six dead adults at Sandy Hook, could have a do-over, you can bet they’d rather have face young Adam Lanza with a gun of their own.

Having a permit does not necessarily mean having a gun.

True enough.

But the Authorities are not going to worry about such fine distinctions once they have decided to round up the usual suspects.

When Officer Friendly shows up at 5:30 in the morning to take some guns - he is gonna take some guns. Even if he has to waste one of his "drop guns" that he brought along.

And if for some reason, he was not fully prepared for that contingency, why, he and his team will simply trash the house, looking for the guns that are supposed to be there.

Best to have a good handyman available who can repair drywall and fix broken doors.

Let me repeat myself since you obviously suffer from some sort of reading comprehension.......I stated a fact, I said nothing about my opinion on licensing you idiot. Then I followed up with:

"I don't want any yahoo who has never had a gun safety course carrying a firearm around anywhere......"

The CCL also allows some conflicts between AZ law and Fed law to be resolved as there are Fed prohibitions that are not prohibitive in the case of a proper CCL.

Not every state requires or required a class for a concealed carry permit,(Indiana comes to mind)

Well you certainly got me on that one, there is a state that doesn't require a firearm safety class to carry a concealed weapon.......congratulations@!

With that being said, I stand by my statement, I don't want to be near any first time firearm owner "YAHOO" who has never been trained in the proper use of firearms..............

“I don’t want any yahoo who has never had a gun safety course carrying a firearm around anywhere”

so, how are you going to get the criminals and gang-bangers to take these safety courses before they start carrying their firearms everywhere they commit their crimes and murders?

I gotta agree with ya fella.

Even an IDIOT should know that there were NO strings attached to the 2nd amendment.

How far we have fallen.
