“Joke” should be in quotation marks. There isn’t a shadow of a doubt that he would do that deal if it were on the table.
Greenland, for one, was not on the staff’s list of priorities for the week. But while Mr. Trump has long derided nation-building, his flirtation with nation-buying turned out to be more serious than many originally thought. He has been talking privately about buying Greenland for more than a year and even detailed the National Security Council staff to study the idea.
At one point last year, according to a former official who heard him, he even joked in a meeting about trading Puerto Rico for Greenland — happy to rid himself of an American territory whose leadership he has feuded with repeatedly.
A foreign policy expert at the Heritage Foundation, trying to encapsulate the absurdity of Trump’s interest in purchasing Greenland, told the Hill, “It would be like the prime minister of Denmark saying that she wants to buy Puerto Rico or Guam. Why not just change Puerto Rico‘s name to Greenland II and send the bill to Denmark.......

Trump does have a great sense of humor! Too bad the Left is so miserable that they cannot occasionally laugh with him.
So a quote attributed to an unnamed “former official” by an admitted propaganda outlet for the Democrat party is now reported as factual.
Until I hear Trump say it, or hear multiple reports by reliable people (with actual names) who HEARD him say it, I assert that this is just another lie from the New York Times.

Trade California for Greenland. The Danes are almost as far left as is the Netherlands, so California would feel right at home.
If the PR tourism department was on the ball, they should immediately start advertising in Denmark. Now that summer is drawing to a close, a lot of Danes might really like traveling there.
I’ve got a much better idea than that for a Greenland trade! And Denmark’s gonna love it!
