Hurricane Dorian battered St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and brushing Puerto Rico. Taking aim at the Florida Atlantic Coastline, Hurricane Dorian is projected to be a major hurricane (Category 3) at landfall.

I will be talking to my son tomorrow who lives just south of San Juan, and then report here on the situation.
I agree Publix is great.. Been a customer since 1961..
My best friend’s mom worked as a cashier at Publix most of her life and put two kids through college and bought a vette upon retirement, and the stock she was given/earned over the years paid off her house. And Publix always gives free stuff to non profits like scouts, or even birthday cakes to veterans in assisted living or nursing homes. It’s the best of the family/employee owned companies around.
Andrew missed the Keys and struck Homestead. Evacuation took Keys-people into the hurricane, with horror tales that continue to this day!

I arrived two weeks after Hurricane Andrew struck Miami, just as the power came back on!
My neighborhood rotated cookout duties all that time, bringing neighbors even closer together. Afterwards, I was amazed at the amount of insurance fraud, and wasn’t surprised that State Farm Insurance abandoned Florida shortly afterwards.

By the way, my daughter in Boca said she was prepared with plenty of water but heard most supermarkets have none left. She went into Office Max for something yesterday and saw at least 30 cases of water stacked there.
Looks like some people are getting ready to party!

The NOAA Hurricane cone is consistent from yesterday, with the exception that the cone now is slightly more south, and instead of a hurricane, they have updated it to a major hurricane.

Some highlights:
With the exception of COAMPS-TC and HMON, the other reliable models are in excellent agreement through day 3, with Dorian turning westward south of the ridge and moving near or over the northernmost islands in the Bahamas Sunday and Monday. After day 3, steering currents collapse as a break develops in the ridge, and Dorian will likely slow down considerably as it approaches the Florida peninsula. There is more spread among the deterministic models and their ensemble members during that time, with disagreement on exactly when and where Dorian will turn northwestward and northward on days 4 and 5. That being said, the tracks of the simple and corrected consensus models on this cycle did not warrant much change to the official NHC forecast, with perhaps just a slight southward adjustment on days 3 and 4. The biggest concern will be Dorian's slow motion when it is near Florida, placing some areas of the state at an increasing risk of a prolonged, drawn-out event of strong winds, dangerous storm surge, and heavy rainfall.
The upper-level low to the west of Dorian continues to impart some southwesterly shear over the hurricane, which has prevented it from strengthening rapidly. However, Dorian is expected to enter a more favorable upper-level environment during the next 24 hours, which should allow its structure to become more well developed. Although overall the environment ahead of the storm appears conducive for strengthening, some models (in particular the ECMWF) suggest that some northerly shear could come into play while Dorian moves through the northwestern Bahamas, and for that reason the NHC official intensity forecast is not quite as bullish as the HCCA, Florida State Superensemble, and HWRF models. Still, Dorian is forecast to become a dangerous major hurricane later and maintain that status as it heads for the northwestern Bahamas and the Florida peninsula.
The latest cone (and of course this is early, and it can and probably will change) seems to put ground zero landfall between Boca and Fort Pierce.

His studio is in Palm Beach County, and I believe his mansion is in Palm Beach. He does not broadcast from his house, but travels to his studio.
It's a shame, but it happens after every storm.
A few years ago, in a neighborhood where I no longer live, I noticed that many neighbors were having their home siding replaced.
Then, some guy knocked on my door, and said my house had "hail damage" and that he could show me the damage, and work with me and my insurance company to get new siding. I told him I had no damage, and to take a walk. He wasn't happy.
A few months later, the guy and his employees were all arrested. He was defrauding several insurance companies. He would take a screwdriver, and poke at the siding, showing the "damage" and the homeowners would agree and defraud their insurance.
