You know the difference is, when something happens in America, the Dawn breaks, the loaders and trucks arrive, the church ladies set up coffee pots and donuts, perfect strangers arrive and start working next to you, linemen show up from the other side of the country and you draw strength from the fact that you are an American and you don’t have t do this alone

You also draw strength from the fact that if no one showed up you could do it n your own because you ARE American

Well many of the buildings in the Bahamas are code and built extremely well because of potential hurricanes. But nothing is built to withstand 200 mph winds and a 23 feet storm surge with waves on top of that.

I get “(Error Code: 214000)”.

But then, quite a few vids won’t play on this (Win 7) machine, but will on my Win 10 laptop. I may try the laptop later.

My 2nd cousin and her husband live in the Bahamas. My cousin (her mom) reported they were still safe. Whether the place remains a place they want to continue to call home is subject to evaluation.

Bad, but not as bad, I’m guessing from this:

Went to Atlantis about ten years ago. Big giant sand castle, lots of open space, few gaming machines compared to Vegas. Had an ok aquarium, seemed overrated.

Port Nassau appears to be in pretty good shape:

I’m a little skeptical, first off it was on the MSM, second the water is astonishingly clear for having just been stirred up by a major hurricane.

I missed your reply earlier this afternoon - getting dinner, I guess but I surely appreciate you taking the time to explain it to me. It’s very helpful..

Its called hurricane season for a reason.

Still, it is petering out as predicted.

The one in the Gulf will blow out before it gets started.

Wind was clocked at 185 MPH sustained
Gust went up to 220 MPH
The storm sat there for 24 hours
Can you imagine sitting in 185 MPH storm for a day.

This shows all the different Islands that make up the Bahamas

The hurricane buzz sawed the northern 1/3 of the islands north of Nassau which is on New Providence labeled "NP"

It was video taken by Michael Pintard, the Minister for Agriculture in the Bahamas.

Here’s a link.

(Forgive me for posting anything from CNN but they are the ones who had it.)

I wonder what makes something a “cay” versus an island.

Main Difference. The main difference between Cay and Island is that the Cay is a small island formed on the surface of a coral reef and Island is a sub-continental land that is surrounded by water. Wikipedia. A cay ( or ), also spelled caye or key, is a small, low-elevation, sandy island on the surface of a coral reef.

Jane beat me to it and properly.

There are hundreds or perhaps thousands of islands besides the major ones shown on my map.
