How about that we instead enact a tax on and set up a registry of socialist idiots? Bernie is a socialist, campaigns for higher taxes, and is surely an idiot, so he can proudly be the first to register.

Problem is, you can tax wealth only once. After that the threshold has to be lowered. In a few years you run out of OPM.
Just think of the bureaucracy required to calculate the wealth of those in the top x% (x being subject to change of course). They would have to be able to look into everything one might own, everywhere. Property owned or held overseas? Property in safe deposit boxes? Art collections? Contents of private vaults? If the IRS’s ability to look into all sources of income in intrusive, just imagine this.
And, of course, just like the income tax was, at first, only for the rich, you can count on the fact that the threshold of this tax will constantly be lowered.
Bought? There was something fishy about the acquisition of that property. But at least he using it to house “undocumented” folks right? Crickets increase to 130db !!!!

As has been said on many occasions, “Socialism is for the people, not the socialists.” It’s analogous to the way our Congress operates; laws, like Obamacare, are for us, but not for members of Congress.
I think it was George McGovern who proposed a wealth tax back in 1972... I remember Ayn Rand objecting “By What Right?” Making the point that there is no right of the U.S. federal government to “take” wealth arbitrarily via federal tax.

Just pointing out if there was a tax structure that socked wealth like it does income there would be less enthusiasm by the likes of Buffet, Gates, & Steyer for lib nonsense.
A national sales tax replacing income tax might do that.
