Not only would individual Rep senators be committing political suicide if they voted to convict, the GOP would go the way of the Whigs. If the GOP cannot ensure their Congressional delegation votes as one in support of the Rep President, then voters like me will leave in droves. It would be time to form a new party.

you really don’t think the Squad will push them over the edge? I am not so sure.

Imagine being a kook leftwing voter. If they DON’T vote to impeach Trump, the base (the kooks) will go nuclear.

Seriously, I assume no such thing.

One:Politicians exist in a bubble that is of their own making. Two: I believe most Republicans hate Trump and would like him gone: Three: WE have given them no reason to believe that we’ll get off our collective ass no matter WHAT they do.

It doesn’t hurt to subscribe to Mitt-Wit’s Facebook feed either and leave a few choice comments. They are fun to read, even if you don’t write any of them.

Right. Take your political advice from the Schlizz.

No. They will never remove Trump.

The Senate MAY vote to dismiss impeachment altogether. Only takes 50, Pence breaks a tie. Almost Minion-proof.

Would you care to make a wager if articles of impeachment were sent to the Senate? There is no way the Senate will convict Trump and remove him from office. How about $500? We could have a third party hold the money awaiting the outcome of the trial.

"Wake me up on this when they find a crime. Otherwise any impeachment talk is just another Dem TDS fantasy."

It bears repeating, impeachment is a political process. The rules of criminal court do not apply. High crimes and misdemeanors are whatever Nadler, Schiff, and Pelosi say they are. Do not believe for a moment that the Trump presidency is not in peril. As to the Senate, I am sure 14 plus Republicans will name and receive their price.

And do not assume, CNN minions, that we will never imprison or hang the likes of Hillary, Comey, Lynch, Brennan, Abadeen, Biden, Awan, Kerry, Lerner, Holder...

There are only 3 WAYS that Trump can be removed by the Senate:

1) Trump buckles on immigration
2) Trump buckles on gun control
3) Trump actually did something worthy of removal

All three have ONE THING in common, which is that Trump would no longer have his loyal base of 90% Republican support. If that day comes, then yes, Trump would be in trouble.

Other than that, it’s just PARANOIA to think that 20 Republican Senators will give up their entire political careers simply to remove Trump...because that is EXACTLY what they would be doing if they vote that way - and they know it, full well.

there is ZERO chance of Trump being removed from office, especially with an election about to happen where the PEOPLE get to decide.

The house isn’t ever going to vote for impeachment, this is just to get their base riled up because their current candidates can’t excite anyone.

Exactly. It’s all sick theater.

The GOP is Trump’s now. Any GOPer that thinks otherwise is a fool. Any GOP’er who crossed over will find in his next re-election trying to stay in office with a very depressed GOP & independent vote very very difficult, in short he wouldn’t make it! The Rats aren’t going to reward the turncoat by giving him/her no opposition and past service won’t mean squat to Rat constituents! They’ll not be happy until a fellow Rat occupies the seat. Rats are much more monolithic then GOP’ers when it comes to voting. The turncoat think he’ll get that cushy high-perk, high pay, low work Beltway job, maybe at least until the next well Rat-connected Hunter Biden comes along and needs work. Nothing beats the prestige & perks of being Senator. Nothing! You give that up at your future peril!

I’ll just say my understanding is different from yours on this. That is, that you cannot just make shite up and demand an elected official be removed from office, no matter what Cillizza says. (And I wouldn’t quite hold him up as authoritative in this - or in much of anything).

For example, a lot of people are confused about the Clinton impeachment - believing it was because he had sex with Monica. Nope - the crimes were perjury and obstruction of justice. Without a real-world, tangible crime (not imagined, made-up crime), there’s just nothing to go on.

That’s why the Dems are just doing pretend/show impeachments - they got nuthin’ to really offer up, but they gotta keep their crazed mob happy.

The consequences of nullifying the votes of 63 million people far outweigh the political benefits, and they know it.

It will be time to storm the castle.

The GOP would cease to exist as a Party.

The United States would cease to exist as a nation.
