She was okay - until the cops got there for a non emergency call about a welfare check. Right?
Not manslaughter. The woman had no culpability. The negligence by the cop was too much. As you said, he had other options.
Manslaughter would be appropriate if he slipped, the gun fell out, hit the floor and killed the woman in a freak accident.
If we don’t give this guy a long sentence, this stuff will keep happening.
oh ok. I’m just used to seeing that angle rammed down our throats from ‘all’ sources. This article didn’t say that so that made me question it. Thanks.
the leftists have been making hay with it.
I agree. I think he had his finger on the trigger and accidentally fired the shot.
Stupid cop. He gives a bad name.
Why are you so anti-police? Sure, the call came in on a non-emergency line, but the neighbor who phoned in to the police obviously believed that something unusual was happening at this house. Nobody keeps their front door wide open in a high crime neighborhood at 2:30 in the morning. I think it is perfectly reasonable for the police to suspect that a burglary May have been in progress. Nobody is blaming the victim in this case. The issue is whether the police officer committed a crime, or whether he was negligent in performing his duties. If the victim was armed with a handgun when the officer first saw her a couple of feet through the window away, Im a little more understanding of why the officer pulled the trigger. But Im sure if you had been the police officer, you would have acted like Andy Griffith and just knocked on the front door!
If you watch the video and read the details it looks like none of the cops arriving at the scene bothered to knock on the open door and call into the home - “Anybody in there, is everyone OK?”
Why wouldn't you knock on the door first and call into the home?
You sure go out of your way to excuse cops who kill for no reason. Why is that?
How in the HELL could they NOT knock on the door and call out to see if everyone was OK??? Are these law enforcement officers IDIOTS what the hell is going on with them??? Are they recruiting substandard applicants this is just horrible, can you imagine how the neighbor feels that just called for a welfare check!!!!
You have the right to live unmolested by the political authorities. That is a "civil right".
Im guessing it means the person (and I do feel bad) who was shot was black.
She was, however a civil right violation does not necessarily mean black or minority. A civil rights investigation is ongoing in the police shooting of Dennis Tuttle and Rhogena Nicholas and they were not black.
What is your source that said she was carrying a weapon???
I saw where they claimed finding a gun in the house, but nowhere have I seen she had the weapon visibly in her hand...
As far as I know, the cops still have PA systems in there cars. Even if they were too afraid to come to front door, they could have hid behind their squads and asked the resident to come to the font door after explaining the situation.
Not everyone can tolerate the stress of being in law enforcement.
> apparently the victim was carrying a handgun when the officer observed her through the window <
According to the report I read, a handgun was found in the bathroom. But the lady had been playing a video game with her nephew. So if that cop saw anything at all in her hand, it was a video game controller.
To defend this cop in the slightest, you must find it reasonable for a cop to immediately shoot anyone who is holding a gun in their own home. And you must also find it reasonable for a cop to immediately shoot anyone who is holding something that only might be a gun.
Neither action constitutes first degree murder. But neither action is reasonable in the slightest. And was no accident. So it is murder. Just not premeditated murder.
If a non-policeman was poking around someone's backyard at 2:30 in the morning with a flashlight, and the person inside the house looked out the window, maybe with a gun in their hand, would the non-policeman be justified in shooting them? Would you be so understanding?
Apparently the new rule is that if the front door is open, you can go around to the side and shoot anyone inside through the window.
This is just HORRIBLE how in the hell could law enforcement possibly be this STUPID, how in the hell could they have hired this lack of just common sense, law enforcement are supposed to be trained OVER trained to not over react!!! The hiring of this person was unacceptable!!! Has it been reported at all how long this IDIOT was on the job???
