When I was coming along, a Staff Sergeant was an E-6. Have things changed?

Well, things have changed but USAF has always been E-5 Staff Sergeant. Army is E-6 Staff Sergeant. What has changed for the USAF is that when I joined up E4 was a Buck Sergeant, then in 1976 E-4 was split between new promotions to Senior Airman and then after a year they advanced to Sergeant. Now E-4 is just Senior Airman which is not an NCO.
