California Cities Ban Gas Stove Hookups to Fight Global Warming

Environmentalists in California are willing to let the state dictate how they cook in their own kitchens in an attempt to save the planet.

Thirteen cities and one county in California have put in place zoning codes encouraging or requiring all-electric new construction, virtually banning builders from running natural gas lines into homes and apartments to fuel appliances, including stoves and ovens.

USA Today reported that people believe the move is necessary to fight climate change “with an eye toward creating fewer legacy gas hookups as the nation shifts to carbon-neutral energy sources.”

USA Today reported on the move “to fight climate change”:

For natural gas companies, it’s a threat to their existence. And for some cooks who love to prepare food with flame, it’s an unthinkable loss.

Natural gas is a fossil fuel, mostly methane, and produces 33% of U.S. carbon dioxide emissions from electricity generation, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Carbon dioxide is the primary greenhouse gas causing climate change.

“There’s no pathway to stabilizing the climate without phasing gas out of our homes and buildings,” Rachel Golden of the Sierra Club’s building electrification campaign, said. “This is a must-do for the climate and a livable planet.”

But the page linked to on the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) website is referring, ironically, to CO2 emissions from the U.S. electric power sector by source for 2018. The new codes call for replacing gas with electricity.

The stated reasoning is so asinine it is hard to believe anyone is that stupid.
Modern natural gas furnaces are 95-98% efficient at converting fuel to usable home heat. Electric heat is 33% efficient overall as most of the energy is lost in the steam bolier turbine .

FR reminder that it's illegal to import typical catalytic converters into California, you must buy one that is easily twice as expensive.

One also cannot legally bring rat poison into California, as I believe most people working in the Los Angeles County City Hall now know, from their hospital beds near the palm trees, since many came down with Cholera and other medieval stuff.

Take away all energy resources and civilization will collapse...............

And that's exactly what the climate zealots have in mind. Sharply decreasing energy use will go a long way toward reducing human population. That's their end game.

Hmmm, we should first examine and answer the following questions:

1) If California could totally eliminate ALL of its CO2 emissions, which number below best indicates the reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere?

A: 0.002%
B: 0.001%
C: Not measurable using today’s instrumentation

2) What is the best and most desirable way of totally eliminating CA emissions?

A: The Big One
B: The Big One
C: The Big one

3) Following CA’s total collapse, what is the best thing to do with CA Democrats - especially the legislature?

A: Death by guillotine
B: Death by hanging
C: Death by firing squad
D: All of the above - followed by launching the remains into the sun.

The BIG One is not the best answer. The PLACE is beautiful, it’s the Liberals that have ruined it. We should eliminate the problem, not the real estate..................

In many parts of Calif, the simple, routine act of clearing brush away from your home is illegal.

In remote, arid areas far from fire departments, places that have high risk of seasonal fires?

YES.

Not just your yard but in some cases dry brush physically abutting the walls of your home.

There was a yuge fire at Lake Tahoe (pittoresqu ski/casino place) 5 years ago and many homes burned owing to the enforcement militance of the TRPA, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.

It was illegal to clear the brush away.

LOL. Too bad they DON’T HAVE A RELIABLE ELECTRIC GRID for those “all electric homes”. I’ve got a Generac powered by natural gas and after the last hurricane We needed it for 10 straight days.

And of course, we all know that electricity is magically produced by totally non-polluting perpetual-motion machines... The Democrats seem to take pleasure in terrorizing we mere citizens, for our own good and all. With the power shutoff fad that’s been going on, having gas for cooking and hot showers was a blessing. Clearly, therefore, these must be eliminated.
