Republican decries Trump's 'misguided foreign policy' on Ukraine

Rep. Will Hurd, R-Texas, offered the strongest rebuke of President Trump’s efforts to obtain a Ukrainian investigation of former Vice President Joe Biden of any member of his party on the House Intelligence Committee on Thursday, but stopped short of calling them “bribery or extortion,” or of supporting Trump’s impeachment.

Hurd, a moderate Republican who has announced his retirement from Congress, has often clashed with Trump on a variety of issues and last month assailed the president for calling on China to investigate Biden and his son Hunter. But his remarks on Thursday were notable in that he had previously kept such differences with Trump out of view as he questioned witnesses during the impeachment inquiry.

“Throughout this process I have said that I want to learn the facts, so that we can get to the truth. So why are we here? Because of two things that occurred during the president’s July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Zelensky. The use of the phrase ‘do us a favor, though’ in reference to the 2016 presidential election, and the mention of the word ‘Biden,’” Hurd began.

“I believe both statements were inappropriate, misguided foreign policy, and it is certainly not how the executive, current or in the future, should handle such a call. Over the course of these hearings, the American people have learned about a series of events that in my view have undermined our national security and undercut Ukraine, a key partner on the frontlines against Russian aggression,” he said. “We’ve heard of U.S. officials carrying uncoordinated, confusing and conflicting messages that created doubt and uncertainty in Kyiv at a time when a new reformist administration has just taken office and was ready to fight corruption and work with us on other U.S. objectives..."

It’s beginning to concern me that even our elected officials have been infiltrated.

I think it’s time we block people who worked for the CIA or FBI from holding office.

Rep. Will Hurd, R-Texas

In February 2017 Hurd voted against a resolution that would have directed the House to request ten years of President Trump's tax returns, which would then have been reviewed by the House Ways and Means Committee in a closed session.

In February 2019, on Real Time with Bill Maher, Maher pressed Hurd about his vote against the February 2017 resolution to request Trump's tax returns. Hurd said that the resolution had not been on the floor for a vote, but that he would support renewed efforts by the House to obtain the returns.

In July 2019 Hurd was one of four Republican House members to vote in support of a motion to condemn tweets by Trump calling on "'Progressive' Democratic Congresswomen who originally came from countries" Trump described as failing to "go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came."

In October 2019, amid the Trump-Ukraine scandal that set off an impeachment inquiry into Trump, Hurd did not openly support impeachment. He said, "some of these things are indeed damning. However, I want to make sure we get through this entire investigation before coming to some kind of conclusion.

On August 1, 2019, Hurd announced that he will not run for reelection to Congress in 2020 after finishing his third term

The use of the phrase ‘do us a favor, though’ in reference to the 2016 presidential election, and the mention of the word ‘Biden,’” Hurd began.

F’ng liar. The ‘favor’ was in regards to info on Crowdstrike and how they attempted to throw the election.

If the Republican Party wants to survive, this is exactly the type of guy they need to get rid of.

Texas is a big state.
Turd ranks right in there with Al Green (not the singer, the dumb one) and Eddie Bernice Johnson.

Agree!

Seems too many are in elected office.

Would like to see a some type of system where the ‘entrenched bureaucracy’ would be replaced every two or three years.

I listened to Hurd and thought to myself, well, if the Rats can’t even convince a moderate like Hurd, there is no way they are getting GOP votes and they are going to pick up Rat votes.

By the way, he is retiring. Thus, you don’t need to “unelect” him.

Setting aside this total jackass completely, not only would I not care if Trump had called for an investigation into the Biden family pay-to-play operation, I would be kinda of ticked if The POTUS didn’t want such sleazy doings by former US officials investigated.
