NOONAN: Trump’s Defenders Have No Defense
WSJ ^ | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 11/22/2019 6:56:21 AM PST by conservative98

Look, the case has been made. Almost everything in the impeachment hearings this week fleshed out and backed up the charge that President Trump muscled Ukraine for political gain. The pending question is what precisely the House and its Democratic majority will decide to include in the articles of impeachment, what statutes or standards they will assert the president violated.

What was said consistently undermined Mr. Trump’s case, but more deadly was what has never been said. In the two months since Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced a formal impeachment inquiry was under way and the two weeks since the Intelligence Committee’s public hearings began, no one, even in the White House, has said anything like, “He wouldn’t do that!” or “That would be so unlike him.” His best friends know he would do it and it’s exactly like him.

The hearings have made clear that Trump is guilty ... of being president and nothing more.

He did say that and Gordon Sondland admitted as much the other day.

Did Noonan miss it or was she asleep during that exchange?

Trump denied a quid pro quo and he denied bribery

All diplomacy is quid pro quo, and all inducements to foreign nations by the US government cannot ever be bribery, by definition.

HE DID IT. Defend him, because he was right to do it.

A personal foe of Trump was on the committee. He retiring this year. He has NO reason at all to defend Trump. HE said the Dems have NO CASE.

It is over you childish buffoons in the Fake New. You lost in 2016. You are not magically going to some how get Trump now.

Grow up finally you pathetic infantile morons

Assuming that President Trump requested the investigation, one intentionally omitted key question is whether Trump was requesting an investigation into a domestic political opponent or requesting an investigation based on probable cause to believe that a serious crime had occurred. Given how emphatic democrats are about the Hunter Biden charge being a “debunked accusation”, I cannot wait to hear testimony on the merits of the request.

It’s well known Noonan despises Trump and is partial to the swamp—yes, she misses the old days in Washington where cordiality and quiet corruption were coin of the realm.

When McCain picked Palin, Noonan completely lost her mind.

She has never recovered.

1) Nothing presented so far establishes that a crime was committed by Trump. Everything he is even accused of sits within the constitutional powers of a President.
2) ZERO evidence has been presented that establishes that Trump pursued anything for personal gain. Noonan and her ilk ASSUME that.
3) It is completely legitimate For a President to request Ukraine’s cooperation in investigating corruption involving election interference in 2016, massive diversion of funds within Ukraine, and massive financial corruption involving US politicians and their bagman children. Anything LESS than trying to ensure US Aid is spent properly should be a problem — not doing his job.
4) At minimum, Trump had dual purposes.
5) Contrary to practice, running for President does not give Joe and Hunter Biden immunity from investigation of Joe’s sale of office while VP. There is no doubt that Biden sold influence with his son collecting the payoff. What makes Noonan believe Biden should get a pass?
6) Why would it be a crime for Trump to investigate interference in the 2016 election by Ukraine? There seemed to be zeal to pursue that when the Dems claimed Trump had done so. Since, DEMOCRAT collusion was perversely excluded from the Special Prosecutors mandate, there is no reason the administration can’t investigate the other side of the coin. Trump asked that Ukraine cooperate with AG Barr.
7) The hearings so far, combined with other news seeping out, show a high likelihood that US diplomats, NSC staff, and politicians/their families are involved in massive misconduct and corruption schemes involving Ukraine. How can you impeach Trump for wanting all that investigated WITHOUT first determining if there was indeed something to investigate?

We need you to go to Washington and replace the President's defense team immediately, because you are exactly correct.

They are not willing to allow Donald Trump to exercise the powers of his office, and by a perversion of language, they claim that Donald Trump BEING PRESIDENT is a crime.

THAT'S the right defense. Over and over and over.

And these phony hearings have had witness after witness admitting exactly that, for those with ears to hear.

“Look” at the beginning of a sentence is a tell. It means “shut up and obey me”.

Trump was illegitimately elected President in 2016. All the rest is commentary.
