Conviction trap for President Trump in U.S. Senate
The Hill ^ | 12-14-2019 | Douglas MacKinnon

Posted on 12/15/2019 8:50:48 PM PST by Calif Conservative

Can 20 U.S. senators withstand the potentially irresistible temptation to reverse the results of the 2016 election and remove a president a number of them openly or privately dislike?

Since Donald Trump announced his intention to run for the White House on June 16, 2015, many of the entrenched elites across the various power centers of Washington and beyond have spent many of their waking hours trying to stop or unseat him

The political charade of an impeachment “investigation” is but the latest example.

But that impeachment charade could harbor the greatest threat to Trump’s presidency.

Any Republican Senator who would vote to convict the president had better build a deep bunker and stay down there.

It only takes 4 rinos to side with dems to make the rules in the senate. My bet is romney, collins, burr and gardner or rubio other cross. Trump is not going to be allowed to expose the deep state. mcconnell is a POS and will do to Trump just as he has over the last almost three years.

If the Senate assists this attempted framing of an innocent President and votes to remove him, then I support President Trump in dissolving the gov and declaring martial law.

clickbait BS article ... the Senate GOP knows that if they vote to remove President Trump from office, the GOP political party instantly becomes non-existent forever ...

It is not beyond the realm of possibility.
If they could figure out how without destroying themselves, they would do it.
Most of the Bush League Republican Senators are still fully committed to turning he USA into North Mexico.

They are planning for that anyway with their support for amnesty that will result in a permanent Democrat majority.

Vigilance in the extreme is obviously required and here is why at a simplistic level. We’ve been repeatedly told that the impeachment will never make it past the Senate. But wait a doggone minute..... the House knows that as well as you and me or a random dogwalker out strolling past my house right now. And yet the House has pushed ahead so here’s the obvious question.... what do they know that the rest of us don’t know about what happens in the Senate? They may be misguided with their power hungry nature but that doesn’t make them that totally stupid, does it? Surely they have to have a follow up plan to the whole thing going sideways on them, don’t they?.... what is it?

The Democrat(s) who switch to Republican might be a ruse to get more people to have the label “Republican, “so that “New Republicans”
will vote with the Democrats both the in the House and then the Senate impeachment votes.

Moronic article. He bases his concerns on the fact that there are several purple state Republicans that are worried about re-election. This is nonsensical on its face, as those Senators will immediately lose 50% or more of their Republican base voting to impeach Trump and will get crushed in their re-election races. They’ve already lost almost all of the Democrat vote to begin with so this makes no sense.

The trial in the Senate is always what it has been. If the Senate votes to remove Trump, the Republican Party is finished and will be massacred in the fall elections. The RINOS will fight another day for control of the party but cannot do it when one doesn’t exist.

America sees the tyranny the left has in mind. Virginia sees it really well now - the fuse has been lit.

CWII is knocking on the door - combine a bullshit impeachment with gun confiscation, and the shooting starts really soon.

How many will Romney be able to pull over to his side?

I hope Trump isn’t afraid to use the dirt he has on him.

Exactly! The best outcome for mcconnell and the rest of the gopE is to damage Trump so he is not elected without having to remove him. Where this goes is anybody's guess, but the senate has been all talk without actually lifting a finger to help Trump. How many hearings or witnesses have they called since the mueller report? That is besides Trump Jr.

Funny you say that.... I’ve been telling folks for several years that CW II is closer than they could possibly imagine. I spent the last three weeks in 5 states and was surprised to see that without any prompting, folks are actually now starting to think about that.
