With Wednesday night’s vote, the efforts by House Democrats to impeach President Donald Trump put the Republican-led Senate on track to hold a trial on the charges against him as the new year begins.
But the exact timing of the Senate trial now looks in doubt, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has raised the possibility that she and her colleagues could delay transmitting the articles of impeachment to the Senate.

McConnell’s recent comments have drawn criticism from Democratic lawmakers and sparked some expectations for a delay. After Wednesday’s vote, Pelosi declined to say when the impeachment articles will get transmitted to start the Senate trial, saying Democrats “haven’t seen anything that looks fair to us” in the Senate’s process.
In a Washington Post op-ed earlier this week, a Harvard law professor, Laurence Tribe, called for Pelosi and her colleagues to consider holding off for the time being on transmitting the articles because McConnell has “announced his intention to conduct not a real trial but a whitewash.” This move could strengthen Schumer’s hand in bargaining over trial rules, according to Tribe.

If the impeachment is passed, then no matter what papers have been transmitted or not, Mc Connell can sya we’re doing a trial based on what we’ve heard and we’re acquitting. The thing is passed or not passed, never mind when the paper work gets there.
She also appears to have no leverage in seating her dentures in the morning either

No need to hand them a potential issue when they’ve screwed the pooch so badly on their own.
That is what should happen. End this nightmare.
America should fire such an incompetent employee.
McConnell should just go forward on the Process (already is probably in very many ways) and if demanded to stop simply use the excuse that he saw the Vote Pass on TV.

That puts absolutely no pressure at all on McConnell, which was the goal. And if they're goal for 2020 is to show that the Dems are about more than impeachment...that will undermine that message as well.
Look, to the extent anyone wants to see Trump impeached and removed from office, and so enjoys dragging this out as long as possible, Trump has already lost their vote anyway. It's preaching to the converted.
But for anyone who thinks this is a waste of time and energy, and would rather see everyone focused on different things even if they're not a Trump fan, dragging it out backfires. They're making their base happy while annoying swing voters.
So if that's Nancy's play, I say let her have it.
