Warren Asked Obama to Exonerate Ethel Rosenberg

Clearing the name of a traitor was a priority for the Democratic presidential candidate.

Radical U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, who could be the next Commander-in-Chief, asked then-President Barack Obama in his final days in office to formally exonerate Soviet atomic spy Ethel Rosenberg, according to media reports.

This was a not a request for a mere presidential pardon, which the Department of Justice cautions does “not erase or expunge the record” of the conviction, but a request that history be rewritten.

Warren, now a leading contender for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination, sent a letter dated Jan. 10, 2017, on behalf of one of Rosenberg’s sons.

“I am writing on behalf of my constituent, Robert Meeropol, and his family to request that you provide a thorough review of their request that you issue a proclamation exonerating his mother, Ethel Rosenberg. Ms. Rosenberg was executed by the United States for conspiracy to commit espionage in 1953.”

The request originated with the Rosenberg Fund for Children, a 30-year-old 501(c)(3) nonprofit that, in founder Meeropol’s words, was created to enable radical left-wing activists “to rally around the children of this era’s targeted activists.” The group boasted on its website that its petition in late 2016 to President Obama “garnered 60,000 supporters, both from within the ranks of RFC donors, and beyond,” and that it “received extensive media attention that had global reach.”

“The fear of the McCarthy era led to Ethel Rosenberg's unjust conviction and execution,” Meeropol said at the time. “We’re not asking for a pardon, because she was not guilty. We’re asking for a proclamation that she was wrongly convicted, and wrongly executed.”

On RFC’s advisory board sit entertainers Edward Asner, Harry Belafonte, Mandy Patinkin, and Susan Sarandon, along with communist stalwart Angela Davis, and convicted cop-killer Leonard Peltier.

The letter is yet more proof that Warren would be a captive of the far Left if allowed to reside in the White House.

And Warren wasn’t the only Massachusetts Democrat to ask President Obama to exonerate Rosenberg. Her fellow senator, Ed Markey, did the same, as did House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal and House Rules Committee Chairman James McGovern.

In December 2016, former Massachusetts governor and 1988 Democrat presidential pick Michael Dukakis issued a public statement asking Obama to publicly proclaim Rosenberg’s innocence.

Yet the guilt of Communist spies Ethel and Julius Rosenberg remains.

The married couple was electrocuted at Sing Sing on June 19, 1953.

Their spy ring gave the USSR sensitive information about U.S. air capabilities in the Korean War and the secrets of the A-bomb, allowing our totalitarian enemies to develop nuclear weapons years earlier than they otherwise would have. These spies helped to change the balance of power in the world and emboldened the Soviet Union as it became a superpower and went on the march enslaving tens of millions in Eastern Europe.

As Steven T. Usdin wrote in his 2005 book, Engineering Communism:

“Rosenberg’s band of amateur spies turned over detailed information on a wide range of technologies and weapon systems that hastened the Red Army’s march to Berlin, jump-started its postwar development of nuclear weapons and delivery systems, and later helped Communist troops in North Korea fight the American military to a standoff.”

In sentencing the Rosenbergs, Judge Irving Kaufman was unsparing in his criticism:

“I consider your crime worse than murder. Plain deliberate contemplated murder is dwarfed in magnitude by comparison with the crime you have committed. In committing the act of murder, the criminal kills only his victim. The immediate family is brought to grief and when justice is meted out the chapter is closed. But in your case, I believe your conduct in putting into the hands of the Russians the A-bomb years before our best scientists predicted Russia would perfect the bomb has already caused, in my opinion, the Communist aggression in Korea, with the resultant casualties exceeding 50,000 and who knows but that millions more of innocent people may pay the price of your treason. Indeed, by your betrayal you undoubtedly have altered the course of history to the disadvantage of our country.”

In turning down a request to pardon the Rosenbergs, President Dwight D. Eisenhower didn’t mince words:

“I can only say that, by immeasurably increasing the chances of atomic war, the Rosenbergs may have condemned to death tens of millions of innocent people all over the world. The execution of two human beings is a grave matter. But even graver is the thought of the millions of dead whose deaths may be directly attributable to what these spies have done.”

The Rosenbergs’ guilt was proved long ago but radicals won’t allow facts to get in the way of their narrative.

Because the Rosenbergs were unabashed Communists who didn’t hide their admiration of Stalin’s Soviet Union, the Left ran to their defense, using rationales that shifted over time as more and more damning evidence surfaced against the couple. When the Rosenbergs’ guilt could no longer be disputed, their defenders pivoted, saying they had noble intentions, that the information passed on to the Soviets was junk, and that there were irregularities in their prosecution.

These are all lies but because they remain part of the Left’s anti-American mythology, they have remarkable staying power.

The fact that Elizabeth Warren asked an American president to clear the name of a despicable proven traitor tells you all you need to know about how she would behave as president.

In particular, the quote from the KGB handler:

"...Your no. 5356 [a]. Information on LIBERAL’s [ii] wife [iii]. Surname that of her husband, first name ETHEL, 29 years old. Married five years. Finished secondary school. A FELLOWCOUNTRYMAN [ZEMLYaK] [iv] since 1938. Sufficiently well-developed politically. Knows about her husband’s work and the role of METR [v] and NIL [vi]. In view of delicate health does not work. Is characterized positively and as a devoted person..."

Innocent my ass.

These people, and the Leftists that followed them including the entire media and Democrat party, lie. If their mouth is moving, they are lying, and it is to be assumed and expected. They never give up lying.

They think that if they say it enough, people will believe it, as Goebbels said. It is what they have been doing since Trump became President.

Yep.

I took four posts and multiple paragraphs, but you said it all including the last sentence just as well in one post and two paragraphs.

Well done.

The dedication and ideological motivation of the western nuclear spies to commit treason for such minor compensation absolutely mystified, befuddled and actually terrified the head of the Soviet nuclear weapons program, Levant Beria.

He, as a hard core paranoid and sadistic criminal psychopath, did not understand people who could do such a thing and so he was very concerned that his own people could be similarly motivated.

In a way, his fears were justified, just in a way diametrically opposed to the Rosenbergs, Greenglass, Barr, Fuchs and the rest of the treasonous scumbags who did so much damage.

His name was Andrei Sakharov

Your last two posts change nothing as far as Ethel Rosenberg is concerned. She was and remains a Soviet spy and traitor to the United States who was properly convicted and executed.

But they have changed everything about what should be thought about Elizabeth Warren. This revelation shows Warren to be far worse than just a far left liberal who wants to impose socialism on everybody; it shows Warren to be pure EVIL with an utter disregard for human life when it happens to disagree with her.

Sanders of course is the same; he married and honeymooned inside the Soviet Union and has a staffer who wants to bring back the Gulags.

These people are dangerous to our freedoms and are enemies of the people.

Absolutely correct.

In fact, the Rosenbergs handler in Soviet intelligence was furious at American Leftist for their denial of the Rosenbergs spying.

From his perspective, the Rosenbergs were Heroes of The Soviet Union who did work of unimaginable value to the Soviet Union and deserved credit for their contributions

I hope you read the post correctly and understand that you and I are on what I think is exactly the same page.

I’m sure Ethel was the goad to Julius’s activities. We all know from history and literature (Lady MacBeth, anyone?) that women can be the power behind the throne. Ethel always looks like she’s sucking lemons.

Absolutely. In the case of communism, their claim of “equality for all” brings out the stridency of some people, including women who feel they have been oppressed or denigrated.

I don't get the impression you are one of those

You impression is correct. Ethel was a communist zealot and as guilty as her husband.

My point as that McCarthy was right, and that he falsely accused some out of necessity, thereby deflecting Soviet suspicion and protecting a national security treasure (the Venona project).

Everything else being the same, if Ethel Rosenberg was Eliza Christian from Alabama, would the senator be involved?

We are, indeed.

Ethel Rosenberg was evil to the very end. Her living defenders still are.

He should petition to have the dozen or so people associated with Trump in one way or another.
What a gesture of good will that would be.
Seeings how Dims are so forgiving.

History seems to repeating itself again...actually with the leftist I don’t think it ever stopped...they just lay low for awhile but are always around...the organizational names have changed ..people die and are replaced.
The one hurdle they can’t seem to get over, although they keep trying, they can’t be completely honest about who and what they are...not in the U.S.
So, they have to chip away at our laws, our principles our traditions.
Enter the clintons and obamas.

Falsely accusing an American and destroying their life knowingly and deliberately is the ethos of a Nazi or a Bolshevik. Its un American collectivist BS.
That was literally the ethos of the nkvd in the early days. The innocence of an individual didn’t matter as long as the work of the party was being done. You ought to be ashamed to have said that

It was unfortunately necessary to falsely accuse some.

You can't be serious.

I have never seen anywhere that McCarthy had actual access to venona. He wasn’t playing some Byzantine game falsely accusing people knowingly. He was just wrong on some of the ones accused, on most he was correct. But he wasn’t deliberately smearing some people he knew to be innocent

It's not as if anyone was going to prison. They were "outing" communist spies and removing them from the government.

If it were done with unerring accuracy, the Soviets would wise up and change their cryptography, thus ruining a priceless security asset. It was an existential conflict. The Soviet Union intended to destroy us.

He almost certainly wasn't reading the intercepts personally, first-hand.

I have read fairly extensively on Joseph McCarthy, and even downloaded and read a degree of the transcripts of the Army-McCarthy hearings, and had come to the conclusion years ago that Joseph McCarthy was the victim of a vindictive and partisan Leftist media which had in the intervening time influenced an entire nation by characterizing him as an evil person.

I admit that it was reading one of Ann Coulter’s books back around in early days of this century that made me pay attention to the activities of Joseph McCarthy, especially her description of the famous “Have you no decency” exchange.

Note: I had also read “Witness” by Whittaker Chambers for the first time just before I read Ann Coulter’s book, and the truth in “Witness” shone through. Reading “Witness”, I saw the tactics of the Left and the Media in full display, and with nearly no difference in the tactics we see used by them today. The lies. The scurrilous accusations. The character assassinations. All of it.

Anyway, regarding McCarthy, I knew of this exchange in the Army-McCarthy Hearings, but had never done anything less than accept it as truth (and all that went along with it) at face value. In my mind, McCarthy was a bad guy who trampled the rights of people, accused people falsely, badgered people who appeared in front of his committee, and was a known liar.

This is what I had heard growing up, it is what I read in the textbooks. Who would lie about these things?

When I read Ann Coulter’s book (I can’t remember if it was “Treason” or “Slander”) I recall being somewhat incredulous. Her account of Joseph McCarthy in general, and this exchange with the lawyer Joseph Welch in particular, was so radically different and diametrically opposed to what I had been told my entire life.

I was honestly a bit skeptical. She said that McCarthy had only outed Welch’s assistant as a communist because Welch had been badgering McCarthy’s assistant Roy Cohen continuously and sarcastically in a demeaning way for an extended period of time, in spite of repeated polite requests to stop.

But no books I read portrayed it that way, and I found out one could download the transcripts of the hearing from the early Fifties, so I did that and went right to the section after some searching, and honestly...it was exactly as Ann Coulter described it.

I didn’t need to see the video to clearly interpret the ridicule, sarcasm, and demeaning behavior on the part of Welch to the point a patient McCarthy finally exploded and said if Welch wanted to find communists so badly, he should start with his own assistant who had been a member of a communist organization.

I finally came across the book “Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America’s Enemies” by M. Stanton Evans. That book was so thorough I ended up buying the hardcover, the audiobook, and the Kindle (which I have marked up extensively). And unlike the scum I read in other books, M. Stanton Evans had been alive and been a cub reporter at the time...and he did independent investigation, not doing what EVERY SINGLE LEFTIST book has done, which has been to regurgitate prior works done by Leftists.

M. Stanton Evans actually went looking for documents, and repeatedly, saw evidence of how files had been cleansed by leftists. Even to the point where a list of documents included in a file pointed to a key document, and when he went to it, found a staple with a little piece of paper sticking out from under the staple. That kind of thing.

McCarthy didn’t falsely accuse people, and as Ann Coulter correctly stated, they can’t even list one person falsely accused by him. The closest they will get, and they still to this day will do it, is to accuse him of falsely accusing Annie Lee Moss, a black woman. However, when the evidence is viewed, it is pretty clear McCarthy was on target with her. They all said it was a case of “mistaken identity”, he had the wrong “Annie Lee Moss”, it was some other woman. It wasn’t.

What was even more disturbing to me about this particular case is that McCarthy discussed the case of this woman in private with the Democrats on the committee, and Henry “Scoop” Jackson was one of those. You know, the honest, committed, patriot named “Scoop” Jackson who was considered to have unimpeachable character and was held up as a honest, non-partisan politician.

Jackson heard the information on Annie Lee Moss, and conceded she was what McCarthy said she was. Then, he got in front of a camera in the hearing, and knowing full well it was not a case of mistaken identity, opined that it was a case of mistaken identity and she was being unfairly treated.

And never mind what Truman did as President, putting the welfare of the Democratic Party in front of national security. It soured me on him forever.

And so on. You get the point. But that was a turning point for me, reading “Witness” and then everything that followed that.

As an aside, I have always felt that McCarthy had a source with access to Venona data. Because he was spot on in nearly all his cases, and just a bit off on a few.
