Not sure why you’d drag the civil war into this but do you imagine Point Lookout was the Hilton?
Because Democrats were like the Nazis during the Civil war and Point lookout was nothing like Andersonville. Over 3 times as many soldiers died at Andersonville and many were murdered on purpose. Just like the Nazis concentration camps, Democrats also has a “dead line” at Andersonville. Anyone crossing it or even coming close to it was immediately shot dead.
And don’t forget Camp Douglas in Chicago (80 Acres of Hell, per the History Channel) and Hellmira. The difference between them and Andersonville is that late in the war, the Confederacy was out of food and medicine (Lincoln, the great humanitarian, had blockaded medicine) while the north had plenty of food, blankets and medicine, but deliberately withheld them from Confederate POWs.
“Not sure why youd drag the civil war into this....”
Some people just can’t help themselves, they just have to do it.
Andersonville came about because the Union had ended the practice of exchanging pow’s. The Confederate army was on starvation rations compared to the Union army and the southern civilians were hungry as well.
For true cruelty during the US civil war look no further than Camp Elmira at Elmira, NY.

Or Camp Douglas, Chicago, IL

The fatality rate in northern prisons ran at approximately 12.5%. Rather high considering the relative normality of life in the north.
The fatality rate at southern prisons was approximately 15.5%. Unexpectedly low considering EVERYTHING was in short supply in the south.
Or Camp Douglas in Illinois.
They cant help themselves
