Bernie Sanders a limp leader after barely squeaking by in New Hampshire
NY Post ^ | February 11 2020 | John Podhoretz

Posted on 02/11/2020 11:19:37 PM PST by knighthawk

Berni Sanders won in the worst way in New Hampshire.

Of course, a victory is far better than a defeat, but Sanders got 75,000 fewer votes in 2020 than he received in the Granite State four years ago — with 26 percent, compared to his 60 percent in 2016.

You can attribute all this to the fact that Sanders had only one rival in ’16 and he was able to consolidate the anti-establishment and anti-moderate vote that was repelled by Hillary Clinton.

I suspect two things are pushing down Sanders’ numbers this time around:

1. Questions about his health.

2. The way he sold out so cheap after getting screwed by the DNC last time.

The first time is always the best. After you lose, the second time around is a pale reflection of the first time. Sanders has a real uphill climb to get anywhere this time.

Watch Bloomberg.

I usually agree with J. Podhoretz’s analysis, but I think he’s off-base here. LIke him or loathe him, Bernie is the Dem frontrunner and the man to beat. It’s unrealistic to have expected him to nail down 35-40% in such a crowded field. I think he’s in the driver’s seat to the nomination at this point I don’t think any single one of their other candidates is strong enough to take him down. Sure, combined Klob & Butt may draw more but neither of them are dropping out, so who cares. To some extent what we’re seeing is a replay of the GOP ‘16... with Bernie playing the part of Trump. All the talking heads talked about how Trump had a ceiling, was a joke as a front-runner and everyone who knew anything just KNEW that the combined support of Cruz, Rubio et al. was greater than that of Trump.. and that a some point the GOP would close ranks around an “acceptable” candidate and that would be that. Of course, we know how that turned out.

To me, it seems obvious that his % is down because he had a lot more competition this time around. I wouldn’t read anymore into it.

Besides, despite the hoopla, New Hampshire is not a big deal. Since it’s the first primary, it gets a lot of undue attention.

I don’t think Bernie will win. He certainly won’t if it’s a brokered convention.

Super Tuesday will be huge. That’s less than a month away.

I disagree.

• An under 30% plurality in what was basically Bernie Sanders's home state, the early state everyone expected him to win and have his best early performance
• Sanders won less than half his 2016 percentage in New Hampshire
• Barely squeaked by Pete Buttigieg, who no one thought had a real chance in the state a month ago, and Amy Klobuchar's unexpectedly strong performance probably saved Sanders from Buttigieg outright winning the popular vote
• Buttigieg and Sanders tied where it actually counts (delegates won) in New Hampshire
• Sanders's New Hampshire performance was so thoroughly underwhelming that his odds in the betting markets actually declined tonight, which is basically unprecedented for a first place finisher

I know Bernie Bros are acting like they've won the nomination tonight, but I find Sanders's win in New Hampshire to be pretty unimpressive and think it makes him look like a paper-mâché frontrunner, so I'd like to first see a few more states voting before crowning Bernie Sanders the nominee, thank you.

Much bigger field this time out. Warren is the big loser tonight.

Reid busts out The Culinary in NV for Biden. We shall see.

We can say what we want, but Bernie is clicking with people.

We can't stand the guy, but the Left is just the perfect audience for
a guy like that.

Look at him go.

It really is irritating to watch all the negativity hurled his way. Look, I'm
negative too on his platform (obviously), but they are trying to
deep six the guy this year just like they did in 2012. That isn't right.

Bernie has worked his butt off get where he is, and he has as much right to
compete as anyone else.

These writers can carp all they like too, but Bernie is winning.

I still think he was ripped of big-time in Iowa.

They don't want him to win. Period.

Neither do I, but at least I'm willing to let the guy flop based on his
platform. It angers me to see the demoncRats do this to him.

That party is as corrupt as anything I've ever seen.

What makes me laugh about all this, it's that the demoncRats want exactly
what Bernie does, and we all know it.

The super dels won’t let Bernie get the convention. It’ll be either buttplug or Bloomberg.

I don’t really care who it is, as long as they let the process play out.

That nonsense in Iowa was very bad.

I think he is ‘hurt’ due to his comments on stop and frisk, from a few years back. IMHO

In 2016, you had a Socialist (Bernie) vs. a Moderate (Hillary).

In 2020, you have an old Socialist (Bernie), a young, queer Socialist (Mayor Pete), an old woman Socialist (Warren), a bland, uninspiring Moderate (Amy), and a crazy old ex-VP Moderate (Uncle Joe).

If you divide the results Socialist vs. Moderate, it comes very close to the results in 2016. It's just that the Socialist vote is being divided up this year.

“The super dels won’t let Bernie get the convention.”

This is the thing that has me wondering. What is Bernie’s ‘game’ here? He surely knows this. They scr3wed him last time around and all his supporters expect it this time. Does he have anything that amounts to “a plan” going into a brokered convention? Or is this all a commie-scam to get paid when he gets there? His supporters should be asking themselves that question because it’s the only ending that I see for Bernie. I suppose he could get all “Vladimir Lenin” on the convention floor (assuming that the Dems let him speak).

Bernie’s kiddie-followers are political neophytes, I guess. That must be the answer. They’re going along with this because they don’t know any better and they’ve imbibed too much “RESIST” culture. How will they react when Bernie’s payoff is too massively obvious while he’s trying to lead a Putsch? Maybe he’ll have a sudden massive coronary on the campaign trail and become a martyr and the Democrats will have dodged the bullet?

“It really is irritating to watch all the negativity hurled his way. Look, I’m negative too on his platform (obviously), but they are trying to deep six the guy this year just like they did in 2012. That isn’t right.”

I disagree. He’s NOT a Democrat, and has no right to lead the Party of Jefferson. The Party of Jackson. The party of FDR, or JFK. He’s a “Democratic Socialist.” That’s what Lenin called HIS party, once upon a time. I suggest they only let him run the last time because Hillary wanted to beat SOMEbody. And NObody wanted to run against her (for fear of winning? lol).

The Democrats have had... Lemme count ‘em... 30 years, maybe? 36? Of everything breaking their way.

I watched the debate where GHWB got asked how much a loaf of bread cost. I saw a reporter ask him about rumors of a girlfriend. Bernie chose to “dance with the devil, in the pale moon light.” Whatever they do to him, he deserves it. He called the tune, and he cashed in. NOW it’s time to pay the piper (Karma being the way she is and all).

It IS, in fact, “right” that they “deep six the guy this year just like they did in 2012.” They have been playing Lucy to their base’s Charlie Brown since Bill Clinton crowned himself the Comeback Kid. “Free stuff, free stuff... Just kick the ball before I can pull it away, Chuck.”

Bernie is promising to deliver on all those years of unfulfilled promises. He is their Golem, their Frankenstein’s Monster. They have spent 30 years prepping their base for “free stuff,” like pedophiles groom small children for free candy.

It is MUCH more “right” that they screw him out of the nomination than they let him lead their party to a total failure like Jeremy Corbyn did Labour last month.
