'I know, but what do you want me to do?': Fauci's strikingly honest review of Trump's coronavirus response
thehour.com ^ | 3/23/20 | Aaron Blake

Posted on 03/24/2020 1:56:17 AM PDT by a little elbow grease

Dr. Anthony Fauci's interview with Science magazine began on an inauspicious note. Asked how he's doing right now, Fauci said he was "exhausted" but "good." "I mean, I'm not, to my knowledge, coronavirus-infected," he said, before adding with a laugh: "To my knowledge, I haven't been fired."

What followed were several exchanges that should help people take stock of President Donald Trump's response to the coronavirus. Repeatedly, Fauci tacitly and even openly admitted that comments made by the commander in chief are not true and are not in line with what the nation's leading infectious disease expert is advising.

The interviewer, Jon Cohen, asked whether Fauci would acknowledge that Trump says things he disagrees with, and Fauci seemed to grant the premise. Fauci maintained that, "I don't disagree on the substance" - but then added: "It is expressed in a way that I would not express it, because it could lead to some misunderstanding about what the facts are about a given subject."

The exchange highlights the mixed messages the country has been getting in recent days, in particular, about the promise of certain drugs to treat coronavirus. While Fauci has warned that evidence of the drugs' effectiveness is "anecdotal" and that there is no "magic drug" to treat coronavirus, Trump said Friday that he "disagreed" with Fauci, at least in part, and has repeatedly hailed a malaria drug in particular as a possible "game-changer."

Asked about the White House holding crowded events like a Rose Garden news conference in which Trump was shaking hands with people, Fauci admitted he has repeatedly advised against it. "I keep saying, is there any way we can get a virtual news conference. Thus far, no," Fauci said. "I'm trying my best. I cannot do the impossible."

He had ample opportunity to have his say with Trump and yet because he didn’t get his way his career in government is all but finished.

I wish.

Why is this rat being allowed to so publicly undermine the President? On the same damn stage.

The optics are terrible and whoever continues to allow this should be fired immediately.

The thing that startles me is so many people who are opposed to abortion want to abort the old suddenly. We may actually come to that, as well. God, Please help us.

Repeatedly, Fauci tacitly and even openly admitted that comments made by the commander in chief are not true

if we are at war, then this statement is treasonous.

Provide a united front during wartime, write your sniveling “tell all” book later, Fauci. (But don’t forget to make the opening chapter about how YOU told the American public in mid-January that we didn’t need to worry about this virus!)

Coming out of this we should hope that moving forward we learn that we have to remember who really is important ini this country. The plumbers, the carpenters, the steel workers, the truck drivers. The people who touch things and move things. The people who do that grubby thing called “work”. Who do so without complaining and quietly return to their own hearth. If our leaders continue to hold them in contempt they will destroy this country.----

Anthony Fauci can't help it.. He is what he is.. He's the snake on the frog's back.. He can't keep himself from biting, no matter what..
Liberals are like that, it goes plumb to the bone.. Not to be trusted in matters of security or integrity..

As some of you have remarked, nobody wants me near the levers of power. My Date of Rank precedes anybody you have seen on TV. If this gets bad enough and they call me back if they are stupid they will make me take that role, as you will all agree it would be dangerously stupid to have me near any level of power. It could get bad enough I could be advising the people you see on TV. If you don’t want that you need to get on your phones and emails and make sure everyone you know understands, if you want to keep me where I am they had damn well best behave. My advice will be “Do what ever it takes to save this country”. We can “get on with it” when it is over and it will be over. And if they leave me there my advice would be Guantanamo for those responsible where they can make their case for whether they should be allowed to come home.

Yes! Fauci seems to need the floodlights on him. He forgets he is the director/advisor and NOT the President. He does not maintain the respect for others around him that everyone else is doing.. Particularly with our President. Trump is overflowing with praise for everyone.... Not so, Fauci. It grates.

“Of course he is correct that Trump does not do well with words and explains things with a limited amount of skill at times.”

Yep, that is why he can keep a large crowd spellbound for 90 minutes.

So thousands of people who have symptoms will be treated, will enjoy improved health, and things will settle down, and Fauci will just be an arrogant, annoyed left-over fossil

The absolute biggest threat we face are the politicians we all have elected. Also, stop listening to mainstream media news. They have no idea what they’re talking about. They’re just trying to fill in time with air-head hosts who have been hired to read script written for them by twenty-somethings who 'poll test' words and phrases for current trends. They are in the last gasps of a platform that will soon be deemed and ruled irrelevant. “Republican Strategist“ and "Democrat Strategists" are useless terms as are and the fossilized political parties they represent.

Sure, it's more complicated than that, but it's essentially that.

Whatever the complications are with Fauci, trying to reassure people and speaking in a strictly scientific way are going to conflict.

There are real problems with Fauci's attitude, but the conflict would be there whoever held his job.

Does it have to be so public? That's also a complicated question since a lot of Fauci's personal characteristics are shared by many other scientists and bureaucrats.
