On Saturday, President Trump visited Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia to send off the USNS Comfort as the hospital ship departs for New York City. The ship is stocked with medical supplies and has 1,000 beds and other equipment to help aide New York in its response to the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic.
The ship has 12 fully-equipped operating rooms, two oxygen-producing plants, a pharmacy, a medical laboratory, an optometry lab, a CAT-scan, digital radiological services, and a helicopter pad, according to the Navy. Once in New York, the ship will provide medical services to non-coronavirus patients, freeing up New York's hospitals as they continue their battle against COVID-19.
'We are marshaling the full power of the American nation, economic, scientific, medical, and military to vanquish the virus," Trump said. "We will stop at nothing to protect the people of New York."
The president said the ship is "stocked to the brim with equipment, medicines and everything you can think of," and described the ship as a "70,000-ton message of hope and solidarity to the incredible people of New York."
"We are here for you. We are fighting for you. We are with you all the way, and we always will be," Trump reassured New Yorkers. "You have the unwavering support of the entire nation, the entire government, and the entire American people."
The Comfort was undergoing planned maintenance when it was ordered back into service with a new mission of providing much-needed medical assistance to New York. The Comfort's sister ship, the USNS Mercy, was dispatched to Los Angeles to fulfill a similar mission in California.
Trump announced New York Governor Andrew Cuomo will welcome the Comfort when it arrives at Pier 90 in New York City on Monday.

Trump wins again.
Cuomo seems so petty
GO TRUMP
God bless America!
God Bless the Comfort and Mercy.
Our President gave an incredible discussion with the ship in the background.
He referenced the raw military power that our Navy has in Norfolk a couple times for the originators of this killer virus.
We would not be surprised if he shuts down the planes, trains and private vehicles trying to leave New York City and the state.
So escape from NY City may become a live reality show instead of a b film.
SALUTE!
God Bless our Sailors and Marines on the Comfort and Mercy and their families left at home!
Once in New York, the ship will provide medical services to non-coronavirus patients, freeing up New York’s hospitals as they continue their battle against COVID-19.
This is an important distinction to make.
New York and California will express their gratitude by voting against Trump and Republicans.
That will be fun to watch.
You dont think people with Coronavirus are not going to be on that ship from day 1?
Testing is now available to screen patients; so, I think there’s a good chance the ship will remain free of it.
Seems a little silly to travel south a hundred miles to Norfolk to send off a ship that’s going just a few hundred miles north up the coast...
Our President is exactly where he was always meant to be, at the time of our Nations greatest need. Thank you God for this great warrior, that you sent to us. As it has always been said, one is either a politician or a warrior,
Amen!
cuomo is against quarantininng new york according to his interview with cnn just now.
so which is it, cuomo? is it an emergency, or not? cuomo seems to want it both ways, depending on how much or how little it interferes with everyday nyc city dwellers’ lives...
Cuomo was only good for about a day after Trump reminded him that Cuomo was in charge of NY State and he needed to step up.
Now Cuomo has reverted to being a whining ‘Rat.
Cuomo has not even kicked DaCommieo’s butt for being even worse.
The President called Cuomo’s bluff.
cuomo says country needs a federal declaration of war...
... but apparently without quarantining new york?
Someone whose most commonly mentioned trait is whining will probably not make a good candidate for President.
