Democrats Likely to Dump Biden

As Democrat power brokers survey the constantly shifting ground in the lead-up to the national election, it is not hard to guess the candidate strategy discussions going on in their super-secret supervillain lairs.

Plan A: Hide a Biden

The first strategy is to run nobody at all, which is another way of saying they stick with Joe Biden. The idea here is to use the current COVID-19 environment to keep Joe Biden safely tucked away and quiet while the media and surrogates do the heavy reinvention.

This is not an altogether bad strategy and probably the best one they have if Biden remains the candidate since it is becoming obvious to everyone not named Joe Biden that Biden's sharpest days are long behind him. Let's be honest: he was never that sharp even in his glory days, but he was certainly a lot more lucid when he helped spearhead the despicable character assassination of Robert Bork.

What commends this strategy is that national presidential elections tend to be referenda on the incumbent. With that in mind, there are worse ideas than sticking a muzzle on ole Joe and hiding him under a rock, or in a bunker full of rubber toys.

This is not to say candidates don't matter. Elections are fought on the margin for a small percentage of votes that can be shifted. A strong or weak candidate can shift a small percentage of votes in either direction or change the turnout model. In a closely divided country, small shifts are deadly.

Still, more people will vote based upon their perception of President Donald Trump than any thought about Joe Biden if the media-Democrat battle station can keep the latter shielded from scrutiny.

Trump was a New Yorker for his whole life and only in the last year did he change official residency to Florida, most probably because the out of control prosecutors in New York kept coming up with frivolous reasons to try to compel him to give them all his personal records. He told them to f-off and pulled out. But he’s a New Yorker in his core, his whole image is that of a New York real estate tycoon. Nobody thinks of him as a Florida guy.

Biden will be 78 years old in November; they’d be daft if they didn’t have a plan B all ready to spring into action...

And Trump will be 74. Bernie would have been 79. Hillary, who apparently everyone is terrified of her nefarious scheme to grab the nomination, will be 73. None of them are spring chickens. The only Plan B for any of them is their selection of vice-presidential candidate. It's always been that way.

you are grossly underestimating the desires of democrats to oust Trump...

Hardly. Which is why I'm sure they will stick with Biden. He's their best chance.

We’ll soon see. I think the DNC will take full control of the Democrat/Left’s nomination process (not that they haven’t done that before — most recently in 2016). They will toss out the results of the primaries (blaming it on the Chinese Flu, no doubt) and ignore their Party members/subjects knowing that although they’ll “scream and shout and knock themselves out”, they’re not going anywhere ... and simply appoint the nominee who will have the gross misfortune of going up against President Trump ... sadists all!

Biden is an evil, corrupt, mentally incompetent scumbag.

Yes. He has been so for all his political, and likely, adult, life.

There's something to be said for that. It also seems like Divine intervention has played a role here.

Think about it ...

The Democrats decide in 2019 that their best strategy is to run a familiar name who can come across as a harmless old dope -- the kind of "non-threatening" candidate who is ideally suited to run when times are good and there is no perceived need for a particularly effective, strong leader.

And then -- literally within days after the DNC had all the other candidates drop out to pave the way for Biden -- the crap hits the fan with the COVID-19 fiasco, and they're stuck with the one candidate who is totally unsuited for these times, and is a babbling train wreck every time he appears on TV.

Why would they want to take on this economic disaster and health disaster?

Economic disasters and health disasters are fixed or created overnight. When you want one of them (or both of them), you make it Newsworthy (and when you don't want them, you simply take the stories out of the news).

They are fighting tooth and nail for this for the courts (in particular, the big one). They may or may not think they can win the presidency, but they will fight to their last breath for control of the Senate. (Slow Joe may be their sacrifice, but it would be with the intent of influencing the elections in Congress and in the Senate; if Sanders were at the top, the Dems would suffer tremendously in those elections.)

The most obvious reason.......to dogged power-mad Democrats, Biden looks and sounds “almost human.”

To the rest of us, Biden sounds like a retarded wingnut with a couple of screws loose.

Deluded Dems convinced themselves they made a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.

I’m just amazed that 40% of the country would vote for a corpse just as long as they have a D next to their name.

(Sigh)
Allow me, please...
Terry McAuliffe.
Ambitious braggart former governor of Virginia. Suspiciously quiet lately. Hilary surrogate. Perceived malleable centrist.
Later this summer, Jill Biden announces unsurprising results of a recent scan of Joe’s brain (it comes up empty, who knew?).
Terry McAuliffe.
Too little time left for RNC to wage full political attack and call him out for past misdeeds (there are plenty). He’ll be the feel good, anti Trump, non Biden savior. Any female vp selection can only add to the euphoria.
Don’t for a minute believe that the dem establishment is taking a wait and see stance on Biden v Trump. There’s a surprise plan behind the seemingly desperate plan.

The Dems are running out of time for chicanery. It's mid-April in an election year, Bernie is out, the war chest is empty, and the heavy donors aren't going to sign up for a loser again. And there is one pressing issue concerning greasing the skids under Joe, and that's the candidate himself and his this-close-to-victory power-hungry staff. They have to go along with the game and why should they?

You'll know that Democrats have decided to go with Plan B when either Biden drops out due to health reasons or the media uniformly shift from blacking out all negative news on Biden to attacking him ruthlessly. Without the media shield, he would fold almost overnight.

That part may be inevitable anyway - they can't hide Joe. And they can't let him in public. Joe is past the trainable point - give him a closed interview with a friendly host and the questions in advance and he still blows it, not once but every time. But he is still the candidate with the most delegates and there is no longer a credible second place.

A canceled convention will make the chicanery all the easier.

The Covid-19 situation does give the Dems enough cover to change the rules, to bypass the convention or only allow it under strict DNC control - if they do cancel a primary or two and the media start chorusing how "unfair" it would be to discard all those poor people's votes, it would be a tipoff. At that point the candidate is whoever else they say it is, but first Joe has to go along, or just go, and his people will have to be bought off or they'll sit out the election. It's starting to look like that health issue is looming, whether on the premise of a "sudden" deterioration of ability to campaign or the Fort Marcy Park option, and I'm not kidding about the latter.

The plan at this late date devolves into a twofold strategy: (1) replace the candidate, (2) full-on media blitz on Trump (yes, another one) over some made-up scandal. I could be wrong but it looks to me like that's all that's left, and it's their own damn faults.

It amazes me that there are people who are still buying into this insane party.
The power of propaganda.
It astonishes me to think back to when I used to listen to “THE NEWS” assiduously.

The reality is that “the news” is bad news - that’s all journalism looks for.
Consequently journalism is systematically negative.

And thus, the claim of “journalistic objectivity” - made by people who know journalism is negative -
is simply a claim that “negativity is objectivity.” And that is pure cynicism.

Journalism is cynical about society, and that corresponds to naiveté towards government.
And - what a coincidence! - that is a perfect description of socialism.

From the Founding Era to the Civil War, newspapers were mostly weeklies, and mostly had little better access to news than the non-journalist. Consequently newspapers were largely about the perspectives of their printers - and those varied radically. What homogenized journalism?

The Wire Services.

Wire services are continual virtual meetings of their members/subscribers - and

People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices. - Adam Smith, Wealth of Nations (1776)
The resulting “conspiracy against the public” is precisely the claim of journalistic objectivity. Since objectivity, although a laudable goal, is not a state of being, journalists have the choice of either working really hard to properly attempt objectivity - or to simply go along and get along, and be praised for their pseudo objectivity. Homogeneity as ersatz objectivity.

This problem existed prior to 1964, but in that year the Warren Court made it worse by making the novel claim that

". . . libel can claim no talismanic immunity from constitutional limitations. It must be measured by standards that satisfy the First Amendment”
The original intent of the Bill of Rights - emphatically including 1A - was to assure the public that no rights would be changed by the new Constitution. That was its sole raison d'être. 1A did not establish “the” freedom of the press - it merely recognized the existing freedom of the press as limited by pornography and libel law. Thus, prior to The New York Times Co. v. Sullivan decision, no court had ever held that 1A touched libel law which, under the Ninth Amendment, was therefore unchanged.

The Sullivan decision - which effectively eliminates all libel suits by Republican office holders - should be legally attacked and overruled. And the wire services - antitrust violations on their face - must be legally destroyed. Their raison d'être was the need to economize on expensive telegraphy bandwidth. As the Internet amply demonstrates, bandwidth is now dirt cheap.

the Dems will have a real problem financing a Cuomo campaign if he replaces Biden. Financing a Cuomo campaign will have to start over the process. No money that Biden received will go to Cuomo. The severe economy caused by the virus will impact the donations to a Cuomo campaign that late in the game. Donors will see it as a lost cause—too little, too late. A solid war chest takes months to create.

This year will affect the ground game. No knocking on doors because of social distancing; even after the scourge begins to taper off. After months of quarantine behavior, people are not going to risk answering the door to someone who might carry the virus.` That means tons of direct mail, TV and radio ads. The expense of such a campaign will go through the roof. And the cash-strapped Dems will not be able to rise to the challenge.

Interesting points.

When was the last time a POTUS nominee was selected by party leaders, as opposed to winning the primaries?....I don’t think voters will accept it....there were a lot of candidates....the voters chose Biden....what was the point of all those debates if party leaders decide they need to hand pick a better choice?.....it’s undemocratic and smacks of desperation.....not a good look, especially after 4 years of calling Trump illegitimate
