Pentagon puts military police on alert to go to Minneapolis

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (AP) — As unrest spread across dozens of American cities on Friday, the Pentagon took the rare step of ordering the Army to put several active-duty U.S. military police units on the ready to deploy to Minneapolis, where the police killing of George Floyd sparked the widespread protests.

Soldiers from Fort Bragg in North Carolina and Fort Drum in New York have been ordered to be ready to deploy within four hours if called, according to three people with direct knowledge of the orders. Soldiers in Fort Carson, in Colorado, and Fort Riley in Kansas have been told to be ready within 24 hours. The people did not want their names used because they were not authorized to discuss the preparations.

The get-ready orders were sent verbally on Friday, after President Donald Trump asked Defense Secretary Mark Esper for military options to help quell the unrest in Minneapolis after protests descended into looting and arson in some parts of the city.

IIRC there was riot in Cal where they went with no ammunition, just less than lethal, gas and so forth. The next day there was a scramble in Sacramento to send the real deal.

Minneapolis is never going to survive this. not only has it become Mogadishu on the Mississippi, it now looks like that shithole, too

Yup. Decades ago when I was in the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) up at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, we had this duty. We were on alert for a week. We had a four hour deployment time also. We were locked down at our barracks the entire week, could not go anywhere except around our battalion area. At night they would allow people to go only to the movie theater on base where they could be called out to report back in quick time. We were to go to Campbell Army Airfield and load out on Air Force transports to go to whatever city we were going to support local law enforcement in cases like this. But, we were not MPs, we were a combat infantry battalion, four companies of grunts with M-16s. And yes, we carried ammo, but the company armorer had custody of the ammo and would issue it when the time came to put us out, if they determined we might need it. We were there to back up local law enforcement wherever in the States we were needed.

Yep, July 24 '67. I was with 504th, they flew us dead of night to an empty airfield, no idea exactly where and we disembarked and sat on out butts in an empty hangar for 24 hrs, then flown back to Campbell. Weren't issued mags for the 16's, but there were ammo boxes with ready mags at the hangar door to grab if the order came to move to the ground transport outside.

We’re already in a state of emergency. The president can do what he feels he needs to do to preserve life, property and (what’s left of) the rule of law.

The MPD have de facto stood down for 3 days in a row. It’s a crisis of leadership. Not the rank and file. Perhaps troops with another chain of command might stand up to these thugs.

Keep the US military out of these things unless the governor asks for limited support.

Barring an invasion of a foreign force, or in a rescue/disaster relief role, military forces should not be used within the U.S. in either a peace keeping or law enforcement role

The governor can utilize his National Giard units, and call in State Police; but no active military units. I completely disagree with Trump on this matter.

The President cannot send troops until/unless the state governors ask for them. Have they asked?

Even then, I would disagree with sending in active duty military units. Governors have the National Guard and State Police units they can rally.

It’s by the book martial law.

Which is technically just a simple way to say that all rights are dissolved and all existing laws are essential suspended. Not something any conservative should tolerate.

On this site we are not conservatives.

We are nationalists.

Conservatism committed suicide years ago alongside the Republican party.

Another blue city in a blue state getting bailed out by the federal government, which they refuse to obey regarding immigration, human trafficking, narcotics, etc.

But Minneapolis is a beautiful city. Will other beautiful cities, such as Frisco, LA, Chicago, NYC and NO soon have similar “incidents”?

Kent State was a pivotal moment that really slammed the brakes on all the fun the college communists and their acolytes were having in the A/W movement. BTW whatever happened to the military trucks that used high pitched sound waves for mob control? apparently very effectively as well and non-lethal.

we are in St Augustine and there are about 20 of them mostly white radicals. Since this county is small we get to know people , or know others who know others and there are about 5 of them who are white commies who moved down here from the north. The rest of them no one has ever seen before.
We had the same about confederate monuments which was done by a man named Rev Rawls. He lived over 2 counties away and would walk around with his little group shouting no justice no peace.
I;d love to see them move out of downtown St Augustine and come to the good ole boy areas. LOL

Foolish move. Not the job of the Active Army...yet. It should be left up to the local police and Minnesota National Guard. When they fold up, then it’s time for active troops.

THIS SO MUCH.

Look, I’m the LAST one to defend rioters. That said, I think this is turning into a trap for the right. No federal troops. Let these corrupt “woke” mayors and corrupt DAs figure out their own mess. They want to protect liberal businesses like law firms or tech firms, BUT they can’t stop the riots because it wouldn’t look “woke” to do so, so they want the Feds to do it for them. Don’t play this game.

Arm yourselves, protect yourself and your friends/family, but this is on the cities to fix. No federal troops, and if they are sanctuary cities, no way in hell are they getting money to rebuild.
