I've been thinking of pinging a few of these articles since violence in furtherance of political goals is the essence of terrorism. And it's here. If anyone thinks it's off topic, let me know. And no, not everyone out there is a terrorist, many are simply thieves and arsonists. And some are protesters. Legitimate or not, since the legitimate should have the sense to avoid violent confrontations.
The article alludes to it, but Antifa is at it's birth a communist organization. I know Wikipedia has a liberal bias, but their comment on Antifa's birth.
Antifaschistische Aktion The first organization known as Antifa, Antifaschistische Aktion, was established by the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) based on the principle of a Communist front, and its establishment was announced in the party's newspaper Die Rote Fahne (The Red Flag) in 1932; as such it functioned as an integral part of the KPD during its entire existence from 1932 to 1933.[9] A member of the Comintern, KPD under the leadership of Ernst Thälmann was loyal to the Soviet government headed by Joseph Stalin to the extent that the party had been directly controlled and funded by the Soviet leadership in Moscow since 1928.[1][9] The KPD described Antifaschistische Aktion as a "red united front under the leadership of the only anti-fascist party, the KPD".[10] The KPD had proclaimed that it was "the only anti-fascist party" during the elections of 1930.The KPD did not view "fascism" as a specific political movement, but primarily as the final stage of capitalism, and "anti-fascism" was therefore synonymous with anti-capitalism. United States (1919). Wouldn't happen today. But even some liberals saw the threat. And I'd note the act was signed into law by liberal icon Woodrow Wilson, who asked for the act. Not a friend of the black community either, witness the many protests to have his name removed from Yale. That's stupid, can't remove history, and that's Wilson's and Yale's history. But not what the media would tell you about a liberal icon. And yes, there are politicians today who support Antifa and violence. Related threads

Note the date, they weren't just opposing National Socialism, but the Weimer Republic as well. But different, today's Antifa doesn't reference the hammer and sickle.
