County Covid numbers jump 13.5% in 72 hours, but sheriff won't enforce mask order

WENTWORTH — As Rockingham County’s reported COVID-19 cases jumped by 13.5% in three days, Sheriff Sam Page announced on Friday that he will not enforce Gov. Roy Cooper’s executive order requiring citizens to wear masks in public.

Page further said he will not enforce crowd limits on wedding receptions, despite the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services’ opinion that such events should be limited.

Though the state doesn’t limit the number of people who can attend a wedding or funeral, it doesn’t list receptions as part of the exemption to its mass-gathering limits.

The state allows no more than 10 people to gather together indoors and no more than 25 to congregate outdoors, as part of the state’s Phase Two reopening plan.

“Marriage is covered under the religious exemption (a protection under the First Amendment). Wedding reception is part of the ceremony … We will not be enforcing the gathering limits for wedding receptions as a result,’’ said Sgt. Kevin Suthard, public information officer for the sheriff’s office.

Funny, I don’t recall Susie Creamcheese er Spear enthusiastically reporting on the decline of Wuhan Plague cases?

Seems odd.

Wearing a sometimes filthy mask that most people aren’t using properly anyway to begin with that contains one’s own Co2 exhaust, virus and bacteria trapped in a warm humid environment (around your mouth and lower face) has the great potential to increase the numbers (by touching the mask repeatedly and then touching surfaces) or do nothing at all in prevention.

Many people wearing them I have spoken with are short of breath wearing them, are getting rashes around their lower faces because of them and are experiencing regular head aches they didn’t have before. Hello! Your body is rejecting them.

The potential to break down people’s own immune systems wearing these things and decreasing their oxygen levels to dangerous numbers is a bigger danger to most then a virus.

People use their hands and touch their face possibly MORE by wearing a mask and putting it on and taking it off adjusting it etc...Masks have become a germ-harboring false security binkie and may indeed increase risks of health problems.

“Media cite percentages when they are dramatic or switch to raw numbers when they are dramatic.”

My thought exactly. How many cases does a 13.5% rise represent? 3? 10? 400? If they are quoting a number I’m thinking it’s not actually a big number.

I just went to the county health department’s website. Nowhere on it is any info for the public so folks can check to see if they’ve been in the same location at the same time as someone who’s tested positive.

I wonder why the county doesn’t make that info easily available.

Also, executive orders only cover government employees while at work.

How many are in ICU?
How many have died?

Those are the tricky numbers they don’t like to advertise/promote.

You sometimes have to dig around, different studies/reports, to get those numbers.

Saw this, a few days ago....

Non-government employees follow laws.

Executive orders mean nothing. Can a governor say you have to drive your car eight hours a day, minimum, or it’s a felony? Why or why not?

On Friday, the Rockingham County Department of Health and Human Services reported 201 positive cases, a jump from 177 cases on Tuesday, one of the highest average daily increases the county has seen.

Walked it back for political reasons, not because it was inaccurate. If you’re not coughing and sneezing you’re not spreading anything just by walking by someone who’s six feet away.

Spoken as a true fascist bully boy. Your grandparents would be proud that they sacrificed all to defeat the fascists so that, 70 years later, you could proudly join their ranks. ESAD.

I’m not convinced that the following article is the final word about masks versus viruses.
The Science is Conclusive: Masks and Respirators do NOT Prevent Transmission of Viruses

I still question if masks handled like casual clothing, not regularly washed with soap and water to kill virus, are a “loose cannon” with respect to helping to transmit the virus.

With respect to surgeon general’s flip-flop on wearing masks, I suspect that flunky, bully, “Orange Man Bad” Democratic elites caught up with him. Corrections, insights welcome.

Artificial lighting urbanites need to start taking vitamin D3 in my non-medical opinion.

Send "Orange Man Bad" federal and state government Democrats and RINOs home in November!

Supporting PDJT with new patriot federal and state government leaders that will promise to fully support his already excellent work for MAGA and stopping SARS-CoV-2 will effectively give fast-working Trump a "third term" in office imo.

While not a popular comment on this board, I think the sheriff is an idiot. There are quiet ways to do enforcement (e.g. using education and outreach) without bringing all this attention.

Personally, I don’t have a problem with face masks for public indoor activities, transit and close contact outside. I have had to wear a mask at work for years, on and off, and it is no big deal. I also don’t have a problem with washing my hands, sanitizing my hands and sneezing into a tissue or my elbow.

I think if we all followed these pretty simple steps we would be all back to work and the government would not be freaking out.

Keep your “laws” off of my body. Unconstitutional means Unconstitutional. You do as you wish but don’t try to force me to comply. Understand?

How intense was the testing the period? How intense was it in the like period before it. Numbers can be viewed many different ways but mean nothing.

Like I said. My comment is not popular. Buy seriously, you want to fight a constitutional battle over putting on a face mask in an indoor place or on transit and washing your hands? Do you hear how stupid you sound?

I think you should save constitutional battles for gun rights, religion etc. but simple public health rules. No.
