City of Richmond removes statue of Confederate Gen. Stonewall Jackson
NY Post ^ | July 1, 2020 | Kenneth Garger

A massive statue of Confederate Gen. Stonewall Jackson was removed from a park in Richmond, Virginia, Wednesday.

The sculpture — depicting Jackson on horseback — was taken down by work crews just hours after Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney ordered all Confederate statues be removed from city land.

Stoney said the decree in the onetime capital of the Confederacy is “long overdue.”

“Those statues stood high for over 100 years for a reason, and it was to intimidate and to show black and brown people in this city who was in charge,” the mayor said.

“I think the healing can now begin in the city of Richmond.”

The next step is to put in place woke Hero statues. For instance a huge George Floyd statue made out of the lightweight materials that the Saddam statue in Revolution Circle in Iraq was fabricated from. It could be done fast and put up quickly.

There is still an injunction in effect blocking them from removing Lee for now.

You are correct, however the mayor has still broken the law, by failing to publish 30-day notice, to hold a public hearing, and to have a formal vote.

§ 15.2-1812. Memorials for war veterans.

"B. Prior to removing, relocating, contextualizing, or covering any such publicly owned monument or memorial, the local governing body shall publish notice of such intent in a newspaper having general circulation in the locality. The notice shall specify the time and place of a public hearing at which interested persons may present their views, not less than 30 days after publication of the notice. After the completion of the hearing, the governing body may vote whether to remove, relocate, contextualize, or cover the monument or memorial. If the governing body votes to remove, relocate, contextualize, or cover the monument or memorial, the local governing body shall first, for a period of 30 days, offer the monument or memorial for relocation and placement to any museum, historical society, government, or military battlefield. The local governing body shall have sole authority to determine the final disposition of the monument or memorial. FReegards!

I drove past Richmond on the freeway on a couple of occasions. I wish I had stopped to see the monuments before they were removed, something I never dreamed would have happened in America.

I just wish I owned 50 acres of a highway to relocate these works of art there. They need to be preserved for artistic reasons. Lets apply to the National Endowment for the Arts and lets test them if they realy stand for art. Piss Christ and Elephant Crap Virgin Mary is art. Lets see how they react to real art!

Frankly, I’m NOT absolutely sure who the ACTUAL owners of the monuments on Monument Ave are BUT the officially Registered Agent of the owners is a law firm in Petersburg, VA.
(It is my BELIEF that the statues & the land, upon which they were erected, NOW belongs jointly to The VA Society of THE UNITED DAUGHTERS OF THE CONFEDERACY & The VA Division of THE SONS OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS.)

At the time that the land was purchased & the statues were erected, the land/statues were the SOLE property of The VA Division of THE UNITED CONFEDERATE VETERANS.
(When the UCV members were so elderly/infirm as to NOT be able to care for their property, they deeded the land/statues jointly to the UDC & SCV for the sum of ONE Dollar, with the requirement that the 2 groups would FOREVER KEEP & CARE FOR the monuments/land.)

Note: The UCV members, as the time of the change of ownership of the land/statues, provided that IF at some future date that the UDC & SCV ceased to exist that the land & improvements thereto would revert jointly to the nearest living blood relatives of the membership of the UCV Camp of Richmond, VA.
Further, IF there were NO living relatives of the former members of the UCV that the statues/land would be “Given jointly & in perpetuity to the elementary school children of The Commonwealth of VA.”
(ALL of the various provisions of the various documents state that the land & statues could NEVER be sold, leased, rented, removed, “utilized for any other purpose than memorializing the CSA War Dead” and/or be demolished.)

Yours, TMN78247

That is a da*ned LIE!!!

What he's saying is, "WE are in charge now, and we are making up the rules and RE-defining history to suit US!

How long before the majority realizes that letting liberals and angry minorities dictate & RE-define what our purposes for honoring our ancestors were -- is not an acceptable scenario...?

Not even the dead were safe in Spain. The left dug up the corpses of murdered nuns and stood them up for mockery.

Dear Mayor Stoney,

PITY that you are so IGNORANT & FILLED WITH UNREASONNG HATE that you do NOT know (OR are ignoring) that the statues on Monument Ave & the land on which they stand/stood is PRIVATELY OWNED & FOREVER will be PRIVATE PROPERTY.

You have, once more, made a JACKASS of yourself.- I hope that the Registered Agents of the owners will SUE you & the City of Richmond into bankruptcy/poverty.
(It would be WISE for you to consult former Governor Douglas Wilder about this subject, before you “bite off more than you can chew”, as he KNOWS the TRUTH.)

Yours, TMN78247

And people will vote for them over and over and over again. Obviously, Richmond is very democratic as is Northern Virginia where from a quarter to a third of the state’s population live (depending on how you measure it). The rural vote is no longer enough to outvote the urban/suburban vote in Virginia.
