Nikki Haley positions herself to lead the post-Trump Republican party
Guardian ^ | July 10 2020 | Daniel Strauss

Nikki Haley has kept busy since leaving her post in the Trump administration as United States ambassador to the United Nations.

A former governor of South Carolina, Haley is often mentioned as a potential Republican presidential candidate for either 2024 or 2028 – depending on whether Donald Trump wins re-election in November.

There has even been speculation that Trump might switch out Vice-President Mike Pence for Haley as his running mate in the hopes of boosting his lagging approval numbers among the broader electorate, though there has been no strong evidence that that will happen.

Either way she has positioned herself as a national leader within the Republican party.

A rare woman of color in the party’s senior ranks, she has been fundraising for Republican congressional candidates as well as in the Senate and gubernatorial arena. She has set up a non-profit organization to boost her policy priorities. She has continued to pen editorials on foreign policy. And she has retained a small, tightly knit orbit of advisers.

Haley is one of the few high-ranking Republicans to leave the Trump administration on good terms. She has pledged to campaign aggressively for the president and has echoed some of the same arguments Trump has made on national topics such as cancel culture, defunding police forces and statue removal, although the tone and frequency between Trump and Haley vary dramatically. At other times she has kept her distance.

Fortunately, isolationist archaic irrelevancies like your self are not within our numbers. You are left out, outside, to bitch and whine and moan in the darkness of nothingness

I would like to see the My Pillow Guy in 2024. Non-politician Presidents are 1 for 1 right now, and let's see if the streak can continue.

“Pence gets a shot, then it’s Eric and Donald Jr.’s turns.”

No. I am opposed to political dynasties.

There will be no GOP post Trump.

What was left of the Rat party after Obama? Nothing.

You think that lesson was lost on DJT? Hailey is a politician after all and there is plenty not to like, but hopefully DJT will at least try to bring up some successors. That's one of the main problems now, DJT is fighting so many fires he cannot look too far down the road.

“Fine with me as I think Trump supporters are going to have our own party by then.”

I believe you’re right.

Haley is not someone that you should vote for. She is weak in many ways...and duplicitous.

*************

She is therefore the quintessential Republican.

I can see us splitting into four parties as Trumpers break from RINOs and traditional machine Democrats split from the radicals.

The math on that will not work out well for either of the
old school factions.

If Haley were to be the face of the Republican party then it would show they learned nothing from the Trump insurgency.

If Trump loses, it will because he ended up governing more like a standard Republican (corporatist, globalist) and less like candidate Trump.

Of course, the degree they can’t learn any lessons is the degree that they depend on donor class money.

If Trump loses we won’t have a republican party anymore because the Dems (and their pet republican politicians) will simply flood the entire country with enough brown people to cancel out the votes of conservative whites. If Trump wins a second term hopefully the GOP learns some kind of lesson in not being total cowards.

If Trump dumps Pence it needs to be for one reason only: letting the coronavirus task force run HIM. Not for any lame identity politics maneuver.

Our nation is in deep trouble after President Tump next 4 years. There is no Republican Party to lead .Most are RINOS. I know this from living in NY state most of my life. The GOP is practically non existent here. It’s pathetic. A big change is needed to support candidates who believe in America First policies.
