Newsom orders 2035 phaseout of gas-powered vehicles, calls for fracking ban

Emphasizing that California must stay at the forefront of the fight against climate change, Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday issued an executive order to restrict new car sales in the state to only zero-emission vehicles by 2035 ***

Under Newsom’s order, the California Air Resources Board would implement the phase-out of new gas-powered cars and light trucks and also require medium and heavy-duty trucks to be zero-emission by 2045 where possible. California would be the first state in the nation to mandate 100% zero-emission vehicles, though 15 countries already have committed to phasing out gas-powered cars.

*** Cars, trucks and other vehicles are the largest emitters of greenhouse gases in California, accounting for about 40% of the statewide total, and their emissions have been stubbornly creeping upward in recent years. Driving down transportation pollution remains the state’s biggest challenge in achieving its goal of slashing planet-warming emissions 40% below 1990 levels by 2030.

Under current regulations, California’s Air Resources Board requires automakers to sell electric, fuel cell and other zero-emission vehicles in increasing percentages through 2025. Electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles accounted for 7.6% new car

“This is the most impactful step our state can take to fight climate change,” Newsom said in a statement released Wednesday morning. “Our cars shouldn’t make wildfires worse — and create more days filled with smoky air. Cars shouldn’t melt glaciers or raise sea levels threatening our cherished beaches and coastlines.”

Newsom said that California’s action will help spur greater innovation for zero-emission vehicles and, by creating a huge market, will drive down the cost of those cars and trucks. More than 1.63 million new cars and trucks are expected to be sold in the state in 2020, according to the California New Car Dealers Assn.

"Hell, they can’t keep the lights on now, how they gonna fuel electric vehicles????*ROFL*"

Why should the proles have vehicles? Electric or otherwise? The State will build housing next to the factories, (Those charming concrete apartment blocks that the Communists are noted for.), and they can walk to their Socialist labor. The idea of having your own house is a leftover from the Bloated Capitalist Imperial Jewish Bankers.

This is actually how they rationalize stealing all the property, "for our own good."

Don’t they already have brownouts in California, where is all this electricity to power the cars coming from?

Now someone needs to regulate the making of tires, electric motors, batteries, vinyl, electric wires, and metals or plastic in the body and make sure they are produced without the release of carbon. Follow up with a study of the amount of carbon produced by the making of solar and wind powered mechanical devices.

NOTHING is carbon neutral. Amazon says they will be carbon neutral, Walmart will be carbon neutral. It is a BS term.

In a way I wish you were right, but I must disagree. The dem party is no longer those that fancy a Kennedy/Clinton pretty boy.

The party base is made up of deranged Marxist lunatics that are using anarchy to install communism. They are not going away peacefully. For certain they will not be giving in to a Kennedy type, or for that matter a simple sex offending/crooked Clinton type.

And this Newsom clown fits the deranged version, not the Kennedy one, so in essence you’ve got the right church, just the wrong pew.

Keep in mind two things.
1. 2035 is only 15 years from now.
2. This is a phase-out, so it will begin immediately.

So does this mean that Newsom will be buying new zero emissions cars for senior citizens on a fixed income?

and how will he deal with the increase emissions of power plants to provide all the electricity for these vehicles? What will that do to the cost of electricity for the home? What are his plans for dealing with the exhausted batteries in 6 years? He didn’t think that far ahead? Just wanted a feel-good for himself?

For decades, proggies have been proud that “As goes California, so goes America”. Especially in education.

Now we see in today’s youts the bitter fruits of their progressive leading.

California is now like a gangrenous limb.

Why wait 15 years? I thought the “science” said we only had 10 years left? If you believe the science, Newsom, do it now!

He’s aware that zero emission vehicles run on electricity, right?

He’s aware that he’s significantly increasing the amount of electricity used by his state, right?

He’s aware that his state doesn’t have enough electricity capacity to manage the demand TODAY, right?

He’s aware that this mandate will force either: building of new power plants OR that people will have electric cars in their driveways that can’t be charged up, right?

He’s aware that people with uncharged cars - and no other way to get around - will not be able to go anywhere...

Oh, that’s the point right there isn’t it.

Mostly. Engine is Fiat, and of course, the styling is Italian. Also, the Fiat/Mazda alliance for the 124 allowed Madza to keep the Miata going.

All: Sorry for going off-topic.

Raising horses might become a profitable venture in CA ... then again, I’m sure horse farts would be as objectionable as gasoline powered vehicles.

Doing genealogy I get to read a lot of old newspapers. At the turn of the last century one of the biggest health hazard in large cities was animal waste.

The automobile was seen as an answer to that problem.

Once again, the RAT infested leadership of California has demonstrated the state’s uselessness, with the exception of taking profit from real estate speculation and other forms of business not necessarily requiring a residency or corporate domicile— as shown by BOA etc... It’s a nice place to milk cash from the state’s ample supply of morons, but a lousy place for a conservative to inhabit.
