The Massachusetts high school banning the Odyssey is in the rest of the article. By the way, what these loons want is politically correct "young adult" novels instead.

I guess they will replace it with Homer Simpson.

They didn’t burn it. It was just a little old book that wasn’t there.

All these new fancy-dan terms being used to butter the moldy muffin of censorship.

Ableism? What Marxist fop invented that one?

And why doesnt this Hindi red dot author not mention tomes from the homeland, such as the bhaghavad gita?

children shouldn’t have to read stories written in anything other than the present-day vernacular

Like ebonics and rap?

These idiots get more silly by the day. When they start banning stuff that has been around for hundreds of years, you would think normal people would see the stupidity of this kind of nonsense. Homer has been accepted for more than 1800 years. People who would ban him now are dipsticks. They are low people with a bad agenda who are trying to disrupt society today. They are weird and should be ignored. They will continue to make noise but if no one is listening, it will not matter.

“antiracist teacher” Lorena Germán complained that many classics were written 70 years ago.

I do not remember anything really worth reading written in last 70 years. Ditto music, fine arts etc.
Art kind of run out of beauty about 70 years ago. Since then, art seems to just like perversion, consumerism, blood, dirt.
It is not art it is just Yuckiness. Kind of makes people vomit, not admire!

I do not believe that antiracists are able to produce anything of any lasting beauty!
Kind of like the Soviet socialistic realism or the art of Nazism. Whatever still reminds, it is looked down with despise. There is nothing of value there!

George Orwell’s “1984” was only a few decades off.

Ms. Cluess tweeted a ritual self-denunciation: “I take full responsibility for my unprovoked anger toward Lorena Germán. . . . I am committed to learning more about Ms. Germán’s important work with #DisruptTexts. . . . I will strive to do better.” That didn’t stop Ms. Cluess’s literary agent, Brooks Sherman, from denouncing her “racist and unacceptable” opinions and terminating their professional relationship.

I hate it when someone takes a stand and then caves. Be like President Trump. Stand tall and never, never, never, never apologize if you are in the right. When you do, you let down your supporters and look weak to your detractors.

"children shouldn’t have to read stories written in anything other than the present-day vernacular"

Makes sense to me. I never did understand Shakespeare, Chaucer, Faulkner, much of The Bible, and more. There is much that would have a greater effect on more people if it were translated into readable language BEFORE forcing students to spend time on it.

Just say it. The goal is to ban all reading except the current communist party line.

I got my love of reading back in 1962 when our high school Literature books had THE ODYSSEY. Since those days I have read both the Iliad, Odyssey and Aeneid several times along with other great pieces of literature.

On the other hand Silas Marner and Jane Eyre probably caused lots of kids to swear off reading forever! “DULL!” beyond words!

Lorena Germán and her groupies at #DisruptTexts may try to ban everything from Homer, Shakespeare and the Bible to Charles Dickens, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Dr. Seuss, but they had better think again when it comes to dumping the Islamic Koran.

Should Lorena's gang attempt to expunge that particular tome from the library shelves, some bloody #DisruptTexts heads will be bouncing across the pavement.

Thus Seattle English teacher Evin Shinn tweeted in 2018 that he’d “rather die” than teach “The Scarlet Letter,” unless Nathaniel Hawthorne’s novel is used to “fight against misogyny and slut-shaming.”

The ‘teacher’ should have their certification removed for multiple causes just from that quote right there.
