Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) defended his request to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of House Judiciary sessions despite House Democrats’ ridicule of the proposal.
In an interview Friday, Gaetz said the left’s insults, which were caught on a hot mic, were disheartening. He added that his proposal to start each session with the Pledge of Allegiance was simply an effort to “unify the country” and “celebrate patriotism.”

Why would he have to “defend” a request to recite the Pledge of Allegiance?
Exactly. The world has seen a sea change for our country in my lifetime. It used to be a normal start to many events and gatherings. Proudly recited. Very sad indeed.
The Dims are going to get their stimulus thru in record time after gaining a majority in all branches of government less than a month ago...what did the GOP in a similar position and time frame...
Seems the GOP is great at bringing up issues that may enrage some of the base, but when push comes to shove they get nothing done when they have the chance..
FTR I support saying the pledge before all governmental functions but this is just another PR attempt by the GOP to look like they are capable of governing
This could be a Catch-22 for the Dems and the Pubbies.
The Pledge was written by a socialist. I believe in obeying the law and praying for those in authority, but my only allegiance is to God. The fact that the pledge says the nation is “indivisible” is a little scary. What if the conservative states want to secede? I don’t think anyone should be required to pledge anything, and if it’s forced, it doesn’t mean anything anyway. We know the Democrats have no allegiance to anything but their own power and enrichment, so why make them say it?
I’m surprised Matt is allowed to sit on that committee, let alone make a request.

The Dems won’t pledge of allegiance to something they hate.
Probably not cool. But gaetz should have known that the pledge is said every morning at the start of the congressional day. To do it again is strange. In school, we said it every morning, but didn’t go to math class and say it again. Matt needs to pay attention to what goes on in congress.
The Dems ridicule it because they are a bunch of bought and paid for CCP assets.
