Too cute by half: Exclusive new poll suggests Prop 2 ploy will backfire on Murkowski in re-election bid

The Murkowski strategy assumes she can find enough votes to come in second and that enough Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents will do what they’ve done before — have her back, this time, by listing her as their second choice.

The problem is, however, Lisa Murkowski is wildly disliked.

snip

Given that the electorate regularly describes itself as anywhere from 29 percent to 32 percent ‘Democrat,’ which includes some independents who just don’t register as Democrats, it will be very hard for Lisa to garner enough votes to come in second behind the preferred Republican, who will likely receive 40 percent of the vote.

So, let’s keep it simple: 40 percent for Kelly Tshibaka, 33 percent (maybe slightly more or less) for a well-funded Democrat and 6 percent for an AIP or Libertarian type coming in fourth. That leaves only 21 percent or so of the vote Lisa.

That puts her in third, with most of her second-choice vote going to the Democrat, giving them a real path to the 50 percent threshold against a very right-wing and outside the mainstream Kelly Tshibaka.

The Murkowski people will try to keep a strong Democrat out, but they will fail. They are just too cute, by half. They may have just given the Democratic party a way back.

A lot of us were hoping Palin would get in this race. Nobody does retail better than Sarah and I think she’s got plenty of time yet.

What happens if voters only choose 1 candidate and don’t rank beyond that. That’s what I would do.

If their candidate isn't in the top 2, then they have no influence to select the winner. As Neil Peart wrote "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice".

I’m a little fuzzy on this. If my top choice and only choice isn’t top two. I’m not sure I would want to help select the winner that is not my choice.

Most of the Californians who relocate to northern tier states wind up going back south after a few years.

Perhaps not back to California (the PROG/LIB politics still suck, but it’s what they like), but to some other sun belt state that they can F#CK UP and turn into the hell holes they left behind.

They are used to mild winters and long warm springs and falls, the summers may be hot but they stay indoors with their air conditioning anyway.

Well, you don’t have to choose. Your choice. Frequently, our only option is the pragmatic vote for the lesser of 2 evils. At least this way, we can vote our conscience first, then the lesser evil 2nd. But no one will force you to vote.

Susan did pretty well with ranked choice. I actually thought she’d lose.
