Opinion: It’s time to end the disrespect toward high-profile Black women leaders
Chicago Sin-Times ^ | January 14, 2022 | By Ald. Roderick T. Sawyer, Others

Countless news reports during the past year have bemoaned the increasing hostility people are expressing towards each other in their everyday interactions. We have seen this lack of civility and respect come to a boil locally as well, especially towards Black women.

This past week, Chicago Teacher’s Union President Jesse Sharkey said Mayor Lori Lightfoot was “relentlessly stupid” in her positions during negotiations of the dispute between the Chicago Public Schools and CTU.

We see this at the national level too.

No vice president in American history has endured more ferocious criticism than Vice President Kamala Harris. President Biden has said Harris has his full confidence, and he has given her high-profile assignments. Yet she has faced constant behind-the-scenes gossip, including stories about staff members resigning, and negative anecdotes from sources who won’t speak on the record.

In all of these instances, the common thread is that Black women are constantly challenged. They have had their intelligence, leadership, or commitments questioned, as if there is nothing they can do that is right.

This disrespectful behavior is especially disheartening as we continue to battle a pandemic that has disproportionately harmed communities of color.

It’s time to do better and that should start with Black women. Let’s listen to them more, respect their views, and change the discourse in this country for the better.

She had a comic made out of her, being a willing slave.

The reason their competence is questioned is because too many got their jobs because of affirmative action and racial politics.

I'll bet a potatoe that I can find a VP who has been attacked more.

He forgot to mention that Lightfoot is ALSO a f a g.

That adds to the “disrespect”, big time.

Not to mention her bug eyes.

(But, I’ve never had more respect for her than going against the cowardly teachers!)

I’ve always been of the opinion that EVERY human being is entitled to a measure of respect by virtue of their being human and created in God’s image. That’s the starting point. (All men are created equal.) Any respect from that point is theirs to gain or lose by their actions.

Smart, ethical actions yield more respect.
Dumb, unethical actions yield more disrespect.

Simple.

They want respect? Start earning it. That creature that is the current mayor of Chicago deserves no respect. She is corrupt and an awful human being. All she gets from me is prayers that she repents before God calls her home. She should not be anywhere near elected office.

I can think of several.

Yes, Quayle, but also Cheney himself (evil Haliburton millionaire, etc).

She isn't a legitimate VP, as her ticket didn't win legally. But even if she were, meet Dan Quayle some time.

Yeah, because that never happens to male political leaders.

Good sirs, everyone in this country has the right to be incredibly stupid. If a news and media culture in place shields incredibly stupid people from discovery in some greater society initiative which lifts them into positions of authority, it is certainly not racist, sextist, bigotry, or even rude to point out their stupidity. One could argue their stupidity in high office is an anthem for the duplicity of those who write and report the news.

The media can't have it both ways. Call em as they are early on and you won't be embarrassed by your propagandist style of reporting later on.

Mayor lightfoot deserves no respect - in spite of her ability to plant news stories.

Any thread mentioning Chicago’s Lori Lightfoot without a visual of the Creature from the Black Lagoon is incomplete...

You just can’t fix “relentlessly stupid”.

Thus CRT was invented to explain it away.

Anyone who has risen to a position due to the color of their skin or on any affirmative action basis deserves no respect whatsoever.

Left-wing black women want their skin color and vagina to be a shield against political criticism? Put on your big girl pants, this is American politics. Do black conservative women such as Janice Rogers Brown and Candace Owens use this card? What about Condoleezza Rice, despite all the nasty things the left said about her during the Bush presidency?
