She said she unmasked so the students could hear her. Meanwhile my high schooler struggles to learn and speak Spanish when both she and her teacher are masked. And my freshman in college is learning electrical engineering from a heavily accented Indian teacher also wearing a mask.
Teachers and students can’t hear each other masked. Abrams makes the point. And kids have been masked in some states for 2 years now, 7 hours a day, not able to hear or be heard.
We need to be unmasked everywhere. At my doctors office, when I checked in for my appointment a few weeks ago, behind plexiglass and masked, both the receptionist and I had to pull our masks down to figure out what the other was saying. Things are so muffled.
It’s even worse for the students. I feel for them.
The irony is the person mst likely to get extremely ill is Stacy Abrams, if anyone should be wearing a mask it is her.
I feel for your college freshman. My son also went to college for engineering and complained about having difficulty understanding Indian professors, and that was pre-mask era! A proficient use of the English language with no accent should be a requirement.
