What needs to happen next is to gut the power of teachers unions, by passing legislation similar to what Wisconsin passed in 2011, Act 10.

Two key points were

1) Right to work, where public employees, particularly teachers, could not be required to be part of union in order to work.

2) Prohibition of payroll deduction of union dues. Unions had to bill their members directly.

Lots of teachers left the union because they didn’t feel like paying the dues, and the union shrunk dramatically.

Masking in public schools should be banned even if voluntarily permitted by parents. Allowing any unnecesary mask use inculcates kids with fear and conformity, and those kids will someday go after the kids who are not fearful and conformist.

Please keep in mind that the schools are pushing hard to take over parenting from parents, but without the responsibility. By banning masking in schools, which can be permitted or required by parents, the government removes some of that parental control and responsibility - even if you are certain it is in the child's best interest. (BTW - I agree, but I'm objecting on principle of parental authority).

As objectionable as the mandatory masking is, forbidding it when the parent wants it is just as problematic. Parents raise their kids. Society has to deal with that fact, and in many cases, the aftermath created by that fact.
