A man accused of attacking New York GOP gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin during a recent campaign rally told investigators he’d been drinking that day and didn’t know who the congressman was, authorities said as the man was arrested on a federal assault charge Saturday.
David Jakubonis, 43, made an initial court appearance Saturday before a federal magistrate judge in Rochester, New York, on a single count of assaulting a member of Congress with a dangerous weapon. The charge carries a potential maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
Jakubonis “did not know who the speaker was or that the speaker was a political person,” according to the complaint. The complaint added that when Jakubonis watched video of Thursday evening’s incident he told investigators he “must have checked out” and that what was depicted in the video was disgusting.

So, it was just a random assault by a big bully. Throw his ass in jail. He knew who Zeldin was or his big commie ass wouldn’t have been there. His governor told him to go harass Zeldin and called Zeldin’s name to him. The boy is a liar.
He knew who he was assaulting.
She's an accomplice in the attack, should be arrested, charged, and put on trial for it. Plain 'n simple as that.
It'll never happen of course because she's in the protected Democrat Politician class and laws never apply to them.
Sounds like his lawyer told him that they have him dead to rights on video and his only way of keeping it in state court (with no bail) rather than federal is to deny he knew it was a congressman he attacked.
So the prosecutor is making excuses for the defendant?
I don’t believe the story. AP, a mouthpiece for the democrat party and politicized LE. The democrat party should be RICO’d.
Not buying this lame excuse. He brandished a weapon and told Zeldin “you’re done” before the assault.
So he must have had some pre-meditated “offense” in mind that was motivating the attack.
So to avoid a hate crime charge, just say “I did not know that he was queer.“ (Or Muslim, Jew, trans, etc.)

If he tried to kill someone and can’t remember who or why, he is about as dangerous as they come. Of course, he’s lying to try and get out of a federal charge.

Probably illiterate and forgot how to read while singlehandedly taking out an Iraqi battalion in the war. BTW. From the clip, the boy obviously went for the throat first.

If he's sober enough to walk, he's sober enough to know that it is unlawful to attack another human with a knife, congressman or no congressman...... Put me on his jury (if he is ever tried before one)...
Jakubonis is definitely a “red flag”. I hope the feddies have enough sense to follow him home and confiscate all firearms he may have before he actually does kill somebody. The boy has issues.
