The 80% lethality was not for humans but for a special strain of rodents bred to be especially vulnerable because of their impared immune system.

Your description perfectly describes Ralph Baric's Transgenic mice that have "humanized" Ace II receptors on their lung cells, that makes them susceptible to Human Virus than normal mice are not suceptible to.

The transgentic breeding therefore "compromises" their immune system. Same words, completely different meaning. I would expect nothing less from the Faucians.

If this was the case for these mice, it is Far, Far Worse. than if "regular" mice were used, not better.
