Many overflown areas of Eastern Montana, NE Wyoming the Nebraska (Sand Hills), have fewer humans per square mile (essentially ZERO) than the coastal waters off South Carolina. Lots of boats and ships with lots of people onboard in costal waters(relative to population in broad segments of Montana, NE Wyoming, west Nebraska)…….
So, why? Maybe neitherLloyd Austin nor Biden has ever been to these areas? Therefore didn’t think about it?

If Biden shoots down the balloon, it will be the first thing he’s ever done to combat inflation.
They had none based within range that were equipped with an M61 cannon would be a first approximate guess.
Extremely unsafe to fire cannon at that altitude would be another guess. Might cause a stall or flat spin. Might risk a collision with the balloon.
Safer and easier to just use a missile. Hard to miss such a great radar target as a large balloon. They did not expect to salvage anything useful from the system anyway.
Great fun for the pilots. And you need to fire those missiles before their "best used by" shelf date expires. Everybody wins.

From the tip of Alaska and across Canada back in to the US. There is NO WAY we didn’t see this 5 minutes after it was launched. Someone gave orders to ignore it.

Joe Biden says he protected the east coast from this menace. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west so the balloon must go the same way. When KJP was questioned about it, she directed reporters to the DOJ since there was an on-going investigation. Joe Biden said not a joke.

It probably transmitted its info to a satellite.
It’s OK to shoot it down now, the balloon’s mission was accomplished.
I doubt if they will “find it”.
Biden won’t protect us. Military won’t protect us. Great.
They could NOT have this equipment falling in someone’s property.
A photo with the Chinese markings on recently purchased US equipment teaching back to Obama or even to Biden would be worse than anything the Chinese could do with it.
That’s the real reason they let it go on its path, I bet.

I’ve looked all over, can’t find any warnings from the Coast Guard or Navy that went out restricting boaters or mariners from the general splashdown area off SC. Normally there is A LOT of ship and boat traffic off the SC coast. More humans per square mile than many areas of Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska (Sand Hills) that were overflown.
So, again, why not shoot it down over remote areas???

If it’s not at all like a black box either that will happen or our “intelligence” people will say “somehow, who knows how, the entire thing was blank in there as if it had been wiped clean with a cloth.”
