Over 90 percent of elite 69th "Hammers" Squadron announce they will protest judicial reforms rather than return to base for scheduled training
37 out of 40 reserve pilots from Israel Air Force's 69th fighter squadron announced they will not show up for their scheduled combat training this Wednesday in protest against the government's planned judicial reforms.
The 69th Squadron, which is called the "Hammers" Squadron, is one of Israel's most elite fighter squadrons. Its pilots fly the advanced F-15I Thunderbird aircraft and have participated in Israel's 'war between the wars' campaign to prevent Iranian military entrenchment in Syria...

Netanyahu wants the criminal prosecution aimed at him to stop.
If 'moderates' want to tone things down they need to give Netanyahu what he would like. An end to his prosecution.
Israel’s Supreme Court has no checks on its power whatsoever. To restore and safeguard Israel’s democracy, the Israeli Supreme Court must cease to operate as a self-perpetuating judicial oligarchy.
It would look like there is a lot of fake news regarding this that confuses rather than clarifies.
They are going to need these Pilots in the upcoming attacks on Iran’s Nuclear Facilities.
Israel could use a more American system a lot of us would agree with that but its a clash of personalities hatred of Netanyahu too strong to see benefits in the legislation.
The Left in Israel wants to prosecute and persecute Netanyahu so badly they can’t see the forest from the trees.
Polls have found that most Israelis want the reforms slowed to allow for dialogue with critics - or shelved altogether.
Many here at FR would also like to quickly reform our supreme court.

These pilots are engaged in risky business playing chicken to get Netanyahu to back down to stop his move to reform Israel’s justice system.
We sure have.
The Judiciary in Israel is politically corrupt - from top to bottom.
Everything they do harms Conservatives and/or advances a neo-Marxist agenda.
Like all good leftist liberals in Israel they would rather commit national suicide, then support Bibi.
Yes, the core issue is a Supreme Court with no accountability and no limits. Everything else is distraction.
Netanyahu would prefer to govern from the Left with Gantz, but is stuck with the Right bloc. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s slyly undermining his own allies. He’s done it before.
It’s fighters versus lawyers.
Like all good leftist liberals in Israel they would rather commit national suicide, then support Bibi.
Sounds a lot like our situation....
Not sure how.
Have Netanyahu coach from the Reagan Playbook. Identify the best 37 combat pilots in the IAF, not in this squadron, transfer/promote them to the 69th Fighter Squadron and either, pull the wings of those 37 and/or court martial them. And deny them a job with El Al, since it’s government owned/operated. F**k them.
As for the ‘judicial reforms’ they seem to be protesting, after reading two articles from Newsweek(of all places) all it seems to do is take some power away from their Supreme Court and level the playing field. Actually would be nice if we did some of the same here in the US.
From one of the Newsweek articles:
The judicial reform package’s main components are: placing judicial appointments under more political control; requiring justices to base their judgments on the law, rather than the malleable veneer of “reasonableness”; banning the Supreme Court from amending or overriding Israel’s Basic laws, which form the basis of Israel’s quasi-constitutional rule of law; and placing constraints on the Supreme Court’s power to abrogate laws duly promulgated by the Knesset, while providing the Knesset with a mechanism for overriding the Court’s decisions.
The final clause of the government’s reform package stipulates that the attorney general’s opinions do not bind the government that he ostensibly serves.
The part of the article may not go into too much detail, there may be more to it than that, but I’m having a hard time not liking these reforms. But, that’s just me.
**** providing the Knesset with a mechanism for overriding the Court’s decisions. ***** Didn’t our previous President touch on such a thing, at one point. Asking why the courts have so much power as to overrule the will of the people voting/passing legislation and not cowering/aiding special interests that don’t like it.
If the reform goes through it would be good but the raging hatred of Netanyahu gets in the way of finding any compromise.
I am certain that Bibi wants his prosecution to end.
If they would stop that he may be more inclined to revise his plans.
Conservative and Religious people in Israel get the short end of the stick from judiciary and could use some relief so I like the legislation fron that perspsective.
It’s an odd move to use one’s personal military obligations, which no doubt were accepted and made legally binding on a voluntary basis, for political purposes.
Netanyahu worked with Mitt Romney in his youth tough on national defense but I think Bibi could take or leave religious and nationalistic parties he now relies on for his majority in the Knesset.
He needs them now but could ditch some of them if someone like Benny Gantz and his Military Industrial Complex “National Unity Party” would step up and cut a deal with Netanyahu.
The Bibi could ditch Smotrich and Ben Gvir the nationalists and keep the Orthodox religious parties along with Gantz and his faction to form a govt.
What the heck are you talking about?
Hah. Those attacks have been "upcoming" since 2003.
Many here at FR would also like to quickly reform our supreme court.

There is a common perspective here that another law will solve the problem. “But our laws our better” I have been told. It has come to the point that more federal laws are the answer to every problem.
The reality is more laws lead to loss of freedom and don’t really change things and are eventually used against us.
There are other avenues of change other than quick fixes of laws.
