“I know you wouldn’t mind if Cuba and Mexico joined the Russian Federation and started arming them to the teeth.”
1. Russia can’t build any significant quantity of arms for their own use let alone for foreign use.
2. Cuba and Venezuela have long had close ties with Russia and Russia was always free to arm them. Why haven’t they?
3. Mexico has no interest in close ties with any foreign power. They may choose to be friendly but they eschew military ties.
4. Cuba and Mexico are sovereign countries and IF they chose to squander their treasuries on Russian arms they’d need to worry more about a popular revolt than I’d ever worry about those weapons being used against the USA.
If you remember the Cuban Missile Crisis it was in part over the fact that we have medium range missiles in Italy and Turkey, which just happened to be near the border of the Iron Curtain. We have long had the policy that we can do whatever we want in Europe but no one can dare enter the western hemisphere without our approval.
