Russia has warned it would be forced to take “retaliatory measures" to address what it called security threats created by Finland's membership. It had already warned that it would bolster defences along its border with NATO if the alliance deploys any additional troops or equipment to its new member.

The move is a strategic and political blow to President Vladimir Putin, who has long complained about NATO’s expansion toward Russia — though the alliance says it poses no threat to Moscow.

"The Russian Federation will be forced to take military-technical and other retaliatory measures to counter the threats to our national security arising from Finland’s accession to NATO,” the Foreign Ministry warned in a statement.

It said Finland's move marks "a fundamental change in the situation in Northern Europe, which had previously been one of the most stable regions in the world.”

Russian capacity unclear Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday that Finland’s membership reflects the alliance’s anti-Russian course and warned that Moscow will respond depending on what weapons NATO allies place there.

But Peskov also sought to play down the impact, noting that Russia has no territorial disputes with Finland.

It's not clear what additional military resources Russia could send to the Finnish border. Moscow has deployed the bulk of its most capable military units to Ukraine.

“It hasn’t even happened yet? Are you ill?”

It happened before I posted the story. Are you stupid or just oblivious?

I thought Austria couldn’t join NATO per the agreement between the four powers after the war.

flaccid and impotent are two words you best use around the NATO cucks you preen for. Not me. That said, pass the Norwegian sardines. I miss my 9th grade crush.

Good for Putin.

The initial blueprints show a size 4 times larger than Moscow’s Christ the Savior Cathedral.

Don’t get your panties in a bunch. Everything is going according to plan. Putin is pulling NATO into a trap. Any day now, Russia will take Backmut and then everything will fall into place. You can look it up. The Battle of Backmut was the true turning point of WWII. Napoleon was defeated at Backmut. Lenin stayed through the winter of 1917 at Backmut and then defeated the White Russians. Backmut is the source of the strength of the Cossacks, and also the Vikings and the Golden Horde. Attila the Hun knew the secret of this strength, and did Tamerlane, Ghengis Khan, and both Richard the Lionhart and Saladin. Once Putin gains Backmut, no force will be able to resist him. And, so, Putin has traitors like Finland reveal themselves at this time so there will be no question of justice when he takes his revenge.

I know you wouldn’t mind if Cuba and Mexico joined the Russian Federation and started arming them to the teeth.

“I know you wouldn’t mind if Cuba and Mexico joined the Russian Federation and started arming them to the teeth.”

1. Russia can’t build any significant quantity of arms for their own use let alone for foreign use.

2. Cuba and Venezuela have long had close ties with Russia and Russia was always free to arm them. Why haven’t they?

3. Mexico has no interest in close ties with any foreign power. They may choose to be friendly but they eschew military ties.

4. Cuba and Mexico are sovereign countries and IF they chose to squander their treasuries on Russian arms they’d need to worry more about a popular revolt than I’d ever worry about those weapons being used against the USA.

What are they going to do that they couldn’t already do and walk afterwards, make bad faces? And I don’t think Russia wishes to cut off their noses to spite their faces.

Wrong again. That happened last week.

You know, for somoene who runs around freely insulting other people you should try checking your facts before making a fool of yourself because that’s all you’ve done here.

exactly, the whole Ukraine NATO thing was just a piss poor excuse by Putin to invade Ukraine and try to reassemble the old soviet union.

“A peaceful border for almost 80 years. Good job globalist nato neocons.”

It still is a peaceful border, and will remain so unless Russia wants to break that peace.

“NATO is going to get us into WWIII.”

Right. Russia has NOTHING to do with what’s going on.

Russia invaded Georgia and stole territory.
Russia invaded Ukraine and stole territory.
Russians have invaded Moldova and stolen territory.
Russia issues daily nuclear threats against anyone who objects to their aggression.

But NATO is going to start WW3 by objecting to Russian imperialism?

I trust you never lock your doors lest you provoke any home invaders or burglars by slowing them down.
