War with Iran is increasingly probable, and therefore Jerusalem needs to prepare to attack the Islamic Republic even without U.S. support, the former head of Israel’s National Security Council warned on Thursday.
“War is much closer than peace, and Iran is more self-confident after forging [detente] agreements with Arab countries. The world is changing and the probability of circumstances deteriorating is greater than ever,” Yaakov Amidror said in an interview with Radio 103 FM.
“America is no longer the same America it once was, and the Iranians have noticed this. The United States has more complex issues to deal with than the Middle East, and the rest of the world sees Israel differently from the way it used to,” said Amidror.

Yep. Makes perfect sense, because the world has always relied on Israel to enforce the UN commitment to atomic bomb non-proliferation.

I'm guessing the poster who asked, "I wonder if this is how Damascus will be destroyed?" was referring to the prophecy found in Isaiah 17:1 .
Damascus is one of the oldest cities in the world. It has been been beaten/conquered/destroyed many times during its existence.
Isaiah 17:1 says, "Behold, Damascus will cease to be a city and will become a heap of ruins.". Some interpret this to mean that Damascus will 'permanently' cease to exist. Others would say that it will cease being a city for a set time.
As is sometimes the case, prophetic passages may have a “near and far” application or a “dual fulfillment.” The Assyrians pillaged Damascus, but Damascus did not cease being a city as prophesied (Isaiah 17:1). The ultimate fulfillment of this prophecy may occur at the beginning of a Lord Jesus’ millennial reign when He judges the Gentile nations:
