The Green Movement Is a Jobs Killer. Are Unions Finally Figuring This Out?

Could it be that union bosses are finally waking up to the cold reality that the greatest threat to steel workers, the United Auto Workers, miners, machinists and the Teamsters is the radical climate change agenda of the environmentalists?

The green movement has taken the Democratic Party hostage -- and President Joe Biden's all-in embrace of far-left green policies is wreaking havoc on rank-and-file union jobs.

The United Auto Workers recently announced it would withhold its endorsement of Biden as he runs for a second term. "The federal government is pouring billions into the electric vehicle transition, with no strings attached and no commitment to workers," UAW President Shawn Fain recently declared. "The EV transition is at serious risk of becoming a race to the bottom" for America's workers.

My only question: Why did it take five years to figure this out?

What a shock that a union that makes automobiles would have second thoughts about endorsing the reelection of a president who, just a few weeks ago, announced new regulations that are intended to end production of all gas cars within a decade. That's a death sentence for UAW workers.

Meanwhile, California Democrats have proposed new rules to end the production of nearly 2 million diesel trucks. Has anyone alerted the Teamsters?

These rules would crush unions like Godzilla stomping on a twig. Perhaps the UAW is finally realizing that Biden's goal is to get all traditional cars and trucks off the road. That's not going to leave many card-carrying UAW members left to pay dues.

Do you think they connect their votes and overwhelming union support for the Democrat party - and their jobs being endangered or ended?

Think they’ll still vote Democrat?

EV’s don’t have nearly as many parts.

And what parts they do have can be assembled by machines.........................

Stephen Moore is out to lunch on this.

Most of these old industrial unions don’t care about destroying jobs. They allow their retirees to vote in their leadership elections, and in some industries/unions (the United Steelworkers, for example) the retirees outnumber the active workers by a margin of 8-to-1 or more.

As a result of this idiotic union membership model, these unions are always willing to screw their working members on behalf of their retirees. The UAW doesn’t care if EV batteries and 95% of the vehicle assembly is done in China and Mexico … as long as they can rely on Democrats in Washington to get a giant pension funding boost in the next “stimulus bill.”

Unions have killed tons of their members' jobs.

Many rust belt industries, for example, have long since fled the country to places that don't strike for ridiculous demands. Union bosses are unlikely affected, of course.

As an unwilling union member for most of my career, my observation is that unions are (typically) lefty political before any consideration of members.

Unions grasp this, it’s the members who don’t.

Green idiocy leads directly to a shortage of Fossil Fuel Fertilizer. Which means a shortage of food.

There is a difference between the Union rank and file and the leadership. The leadership could care the less about its members. They are too busy taking their cut from the money laundering op.

Unions have become guilds. There is only reason to care about a certain number of workers and beyond that it ceases to be an exclusive club.
