Germany's Siemens Facing American Scrutiny for Agreeing To Boycott Israel

Records show Siemens agreed to boycott of Israeli goods to secure $360 million deal with Turkey

Germany-based conglomerate Siemens agreed to boycott Israeli products to secure a $360 million deal to provide Turkey with high-speed trains, according to copy of the contract obtained by a pro-Israel watchdog group that contradicts months of public denials from the company.

The agreement, which includes a signature and seal from Siemens, has a provision that "providers of goods and works, and their associates and subcontractors, shall be in strict compliance with the Boycott Regulations of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the League of Arab States, and the Organization of the African Union." The Organization of the Islamic Conference enforces a boycott of Israel.

The news could raise legal issues for Siemens in the United States, where multiple states have instituted financial penalties for companies that participate in anti-Israel boycotts. The Zachor Legal Institute, the watchdog group that obtained a copy of the contract, said it has added Siemens to its list of scrutinized companies.

"Although modern-day Siemens has expressed regret for their use of forced labor during the Nazi regime, this new evidence of boycotting Israel indicates that this company is still willing to prioritize profits by engaging in economic warfare, this time against the Jewish State of Israel," said Ron Machol of the Zachor Legal Institute.

New York and Arizona officials told the Washington Free Beacon they are looking into the allegations to see if any action is necessary under the states' anti-boycott laws.

Geopolitics is getting complicated. On one side means not being on another, such that Samuel Huntington's thesis of a “clash between civilizations” is being clearly seen. Is there a path through the nettles and briar patch? Likely not? Siemens is just one of many facing this problem. Choose a side; accept the consequences.

Once the Germans were all warlike and mean
But that couldn’t happen again

We taught them a lesson in 1918
And they’ve hardly bothered us since then

You are way off.

***The reason why so many Jews lived in Germany when the Nazi’s took power in 1932 was because it was historically one of the better places for them to be.***

All of Europe has an anti-Jewish undertone and was persecuting them all throughout history. It is merely in the US where you have this love affair for Jews and a break in history, i.e. the historical reasons for the hatred of Jews isn’t understood.

1) Especially with John Nelson Darby, who essentially redefined the relationship between Christians and Jews circa 1860s in the US: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Nelson_Darby 2) WWII and the Holocaust, after which no one wanted to be branded anti-Semitic even though these perceptions where very common in the US as well all the way through WWII in how many people saw Jews, our government policies, etc: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_antisemitism#United_States

Spain, France, England, Italy, Russia, Ukraine... Everywhere the Jews were persecuted throughout time. The point being is that the Germans are nothing unique, except that they did it with German order, efficiency, modern logistics and science in the Nazi era.

That is simply the German mind, and may it be Covid policies (they were among the most draconian and strictly enforced), recycling (take it to an extreme and strictly enforced)... anything, the Germans take an idea to an extreme and enforce it strictly, your neighbors will turn you in for putting recyclables in the regular trash... When it’s quiet time and you make noise, the Polizei will knock. If you don’t clean you sidewalk and side of the street, you get fined. If your car drips oil, you get fined. The Germans are a rule following, regimented society that believes in the need for order and following rules. If you’re at a crosswalk, and the man is red, no one walks, even if it’s the middle of the night, no car is coming... So when the Nazi’s decided to go after the Jews, they did it like the Germans do everything.

Why were the Jews so hated through history: 1) They were responsible for crucifying Jesus and deny the Trinity. 2) They dealt with money and usery was considered a sin. Today in the US churches have their own credit unions and the term “usery” is picked up as a spelling error, so far removed is this place from what the cultural norms once were. Basically, the Jew was seen like a pimp or a porn producer today, he may have money, but was regarded a low-life. 3) The Jews never really integrated into any society and had their own language, their own culture, didn’t mingle etc. Which made them a target. 4) Because nobility often also owed them money, getting rid of them was a way to get rid of debts. 5) The rules regarding debts, property ownership etc. were all very different, and many people saw everything they had being taken away by Jews, which created a hatred of them.

There were many Germans which didn’t like the Jews, Germany was no exception in European history, and in fact the father of modern Protestantism Martin Luther was vitriolic anti Jewish: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Jews_and_Their_Lies

However, throughout time, Germany was actually better than most of Europe for the Jews and that is why so many moved there from France, Spain, etc.

Already in the first Crusade, it was the Francs which killed Jews which happened in Germany: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhineland_massacres

Every inquisition, one of the first things done was to kill or expel Jews: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_Inquisition

Germany had entire Jewish neighborhoods in many of its cities. You had Jews in government, in the military, decorated war heroes, in science, the arts...etc.

***The Germans are more than 2,050 years of recorded history which you define by a 13 year period.***

Jews were not always the victims of persecution. Sometimes they were the persecutors.

Jews were often middlemen for European nobility. This was true in many countries, but most especially Poland. The Polish aristocracy put Jews in charge of administering their estates and collecting taxes from the peasantry. The aristocracy protected their Jewish officials, inflicting severe punishment on any peasant who harmed or opposed them.

Jews sometimes took advantage of their power over the peasants, extracting excess wealth (much like the tax collectors in Biblical times) and inflicting cruel punishments upon the peasantry (as they were authorized to do).

It was peasants who normally created pogroms, not the nobles or bishops, who more often than not protected Jews. And pogroms were often part of much larger peasants' revolts, though they naturally included Jewish targets.

I recommend Jewish History, Jewish Religion: The Weight of 3,000 Years, but the Israeli writer Israel Shahak, which covers much of this.

That's basically the whole plot of "Jud Suß", the Nazi Propaganda movie. Only they had it taking place in Wurtemberg.

I didn’t want to write a thesis so I tried to keep it short.

I sort of attempted to go into that when I list the reasons why the Jews were hated in Europe with #5:

“5) The rules regarding debts, property ownership etc. were all very different, and many people saw everything they had being taken away by Jews, which created a hatred of them.”

***My point is simply that the Germans were not unique (most of Europe disliked them), that in fact Germany was in the big picture a good home for them over many hundreds of years (treated better than many other places), and that most people today literally use an anomaly of 13 years to define 2050 years of recorded German history.***

This question is very telling: “Why did Hitler hate and kill the Jews?”

While usually innocent, it shows the complete lack of any historical understanding.

Siemens Made a Killing From the Holocaust The German conglomerate Siemens AG is Europe’s biggest industrial manufacturing company, employing over 375,000 people, and generating more than € 83 billion in revenues in 2017. Its factories churn out a wide range of products in the fields of electronics, electrical engineering products, energy, medical goods, drives, fire safety, and industrial plant goods. In the Nazi era, it was Germany’s biggest industrial conglomerate and made use of slave laborers by the hundreds of thousands. Siemens, which had been founded in 1847, hit a rough patch after WWI, and things did not get any better during the Great Depression. It was saved by the Nazis. When Hitler & Co. took control of Germany in 1933, Siemens profited as the new regime started rearming, and the company experienced massive growth from armaments contracts. As the leader of Germany’s electrical industry, Siemens’ revenue increased continuously from 1934 onwards, reaching a peak during WWII. As the Nazis’ demands for armaments increased, and as German workers were taken from the factories and drafted into the military, German manufacturers turned to slave workers to meet the ensuing labor shortfall. From 1940 onwards, Siemens relied increasingly on slave labor from countries occupied by Germany, prisoners of war, Jews, Gypsies, and concentration camp inmates. Indeed, Siemens was a leading participant in the Nazis’ “death through work” program and ran factories inside concentration camps such as Auschwitz, Buchenwald, Mauthausen, Ravensbruck, Flossenburg, Sachsenhausen, and others. Unsurprisingly, working conditions were terrible. For example, Siemens used female slave workers at Ravensbruck to make electrical components for V-1 and V-2 rockets. They were subjected to all types of exploitation, with the ever present threat of death if they balked. Siemens’ construction operations also made use of female slave workers, yoking them in teams like draft animals to pull giant rollers to pave the streets. Siemens’ general director, Rudolf Bingel, was a personal friend of Reichsfuhrer SS Heinrich Himmler and made full use of his connections to ensure that Siemens did well under the Nazis. The company further profited from the Holocaust via the “Aryanization Program“, which expropriated Jewish businesses and properties, then resold them at fire-sale prices to approved companies such as Siemens. Unsurprisingly, Siemens did its best to forget its role during the Nazi era, but reminders cropped up from time to time. In 2001, in a jaw-dropping display of obliviousness, Bosch Siemen Hausgeraete, the company’s consumer products arm, filed applications with the US Patents & Trademark Office for the name Zyklon. The same as in Zyklon B, the toxic chemical used in the Holocaust’s gas chambers. The company sought to use the Zyklon name in a range of household products, including gas ovens. After a public outcry, Siemens did an about turn, and withdrew the trademark applications.
